General / Off-Topic Elite the Roguelike

This may be of interest to some... In the recent Seven Day Roguelike Challenge (make a procedural game with permadeath in 7 days) someone made an adaptation of Elite in roguelike form. Here's what it looks like:

The @ is the ship and the green and red dots are the station (the green dots being the docking section you have to aim for). Further details and download:

Plays a bit weird, but it's quite an amazing effort to reproduce Elite with ASCII graphics.

Also I would be remiss not to mention that I made a seven day roguelike myself. Called Mosaic, it's a game in which you try to surround the map and enemies in colourful tiles. It procedural generated music based on where the map tiles are laid. It's probably the most weird and wonderful game I've ever made :) Here's a little video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIcCF6vNq6s

Brilliant, the controls take a while to get used to, but it's impressive what they've done with this. I'll check out your game, Mosaic when I get chance...

I'm into rogue-likes myself, and have been having a look at Tales of Maj' Eyal, the game you mentioned earlier. Very slick. :)

Have you ever tried Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup? It's a very hardcore rogue-like that reminds me of Angband, though not as slick as ToME. Like all dungeon crawlers it's just too addictive! ;)

EDIT: Forgot to add a link for Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, it's here if you're interested: http://crawl.develz.org/wordpress/

Yep! I run a podcast called Roguelike Radio so there's not many roguelikes escape my eye ;) Especialyl a major one like DCSS. Actually I've deliberately avoided playing Crawl much as I worry about getting too hooked. Roguelikes have a way of sucking you deep deep in... ADOM is the one I've played the most. ToME I spend more time writing for than playing (which says more about how much I've written for it).
