Elite Universe what about AI?

I'm just wondering what happened to Artificial Intelligence (AI e.g. Skynet, HAL) in the Elite Universe?
 
Well there could have been a singularity a point where machine intelligence zooms past humans and shoots off to find it's own destiny or causes mayhem and needs to be shut down.

PS article on i09 regarding machine intelligence running our financial system and triggering micro spikes and crashes. ;0)
 
As far as I know the current information we have is that AI is prohibited and that some AI's might be missing / escaped a previous cleansing. Therefore I foresee a big AI war somewhere in the Elite : Dangerous future.

And that will be ... EPIC!
 
i'm afraid about kind of AI like this :

door-monster-treasure with quest given by no-brain IA.
Kill Mr X , bring this to point B , protect this station , capture this pirat , follow this, earn 1000 $ and buy another thing...

I think that AI must have something close to human psychology... i mean :
- the fear to die
so the "need perception" of military safety,energy,foods,important strucutres...
- want to succeed : earn money, meet to reproduce , get higher in social hierarchy and become popular or respected person.
- cultural sphere : politic or religious believe, ethnies...

Something like Freud's theory , it is the origin of what our decisions are deeply influenced every day.

Why does war exist ? for getting limited ressource and so it gives reproduction advantage , and give more chance to give your genetic and culture spreading...

AI behaviour never seem to be like human being if they dont share our basis.
The question is : how design real AI ? Where to start safely ?

What if an AI has gone rogue and has a very high wish to propagate? (badly programmed Von Neumann principle) It could see humanity as a waster of resources it might need in the future... hence: WAR!
What if the AI was created by a different (perhaps long dead) race? No way we could fathomn it's design properties.

I'd love something along the lines of Bladerunner ingame. Replicants who escaped and were on the run. :cool:
 
it could give a common AI ancestor which switch sub-AI-races :
100% wariors (reptilian feeling) ; "empathic" which have a begining of feelings and ask themself a lot of metaphysic question : ComputerTheocracy ! ; another one dematerialised 100% but interacting with the world by controlling(hacking) machines ; another one 50%human50% machine : cyborgs which hesitate to select their side ...
 
Hmm what about AI that supasses human/thargoid technology, but still needs energy so moves from star to star accelerating and extracting their energy before jumping to the next star. This AI entity would be colossal in nature but with each new star could spawn a new clone of itself and slowly but with geometric expansion be spreading throughout the galaxy.
 
The only ingame info on this you can find is LAKA. And yes, a ship with sentient AI that planned to visit Earth is still missing... if they are of the old ship version and fly sublight... it will take a LONG time for them to come home.

No, we need primitive emotions to get out of bed and do stuff. AI does not. There is also no need for individual 'respect' or 'social status' when you function as a hive. AI shouldnt be like a human, just like you shouldn't act like an orrorin.

Of course if the AI has some ability to manufacture, ship 3d printing tech, it could harvest materials and print ships for itself which it can use as a proxy. In effect 1 AI could have a huge fleet of elite cutters, if it had the materials to harvest the raw materials and the functionality to "reproduce". It wouldn't have any fear of destruction while it can keep at least a core safe somewhere. I mean look at this game, while there is no real threat to you as a player, you can go about being a sociopath :)

The only AI I recall from the recent lore was DORIS in Mostly Harmless,
and she wasn't human in origin
