I'm so pro this new Vanguard expansion, I've said on these forums for years since squadrons came in that guild activities, guild chat and proper multiplayer systems are the weakness in Elite Dangerous. Working together on shared objectives takes a lot of workout side the game. Hopefully this follows on to us having a proper PvP/PvPvE board that another certain space game has. So hyped for Elite this year fair play Frontier great work you're doing on an already great game.

Even from a lore point of view having a galaxy wide chat system WOULD make sense its the future!

Frontier, if you're watching this, just remember that some groups have more than one leader. It's nearly impossible to lead a faction of 1000-2000 members as just one person. So some groups are led by a Council, all with equal executive authority. Multiple people setting policy, and overall just helping keep the machine running smoothly and efficiently.

So please take this into consideration when implementing the vanguard leader system. More than one person needs to be able to be the leader. More than one person needs to be able to set vanguard objectives, issue rewards, control the guild bank, guild ships, etc.

Looking forwards to the system. The only thing I really want is squadron member fleet carriers to be highlighted in the FC List of Doom in the nav panel. So often needing to drop in on squadmates and cannot see their carrier in the list. Having their FC be green (like any ally) when visiting it would be nice too.

Allowing an FC to become a squadron asset, granting control of it to squadmates would also be nice, and align with the original vision of fleet carriers.

Excited for the "guild bank" as well. Finally a way to transfer funds to friends and alts.

If Vanguards can reintroduce a way of player factions getting into systems we have just colonized, it would be worth it.

If we could fight over assets and disrupt rivals income that could be fun.

Credits giving / sharing, ships sharing / gifting - much needed.

But if it is just another leadership board UI - nah.

Hi all :)
I missed the stream because as usual they didn't bother advertising it by newsletter, and I've not had time to watch the recording.

Did they say if existing squadrons would be transferred over to the new system?

Cheers :)

IIRC they didn't gave us much details during the stream (and by that I mean absolutely nothing)

This game badly needs a PvP mission board in my view which would finally give player groups a way to compete using in game tools with other groups and commanders.

Vanguard is going to arrive this summer. I think the time is right now for FDev to be soliciting feedback.

Even better, I would like to get some information from FDev on what we can expect to change.

My hopes:
Existing squadrons will remain.
PMFs will be enhanced, not eliminated.
Independent (non-squadron) commanders can join a “Vanguard” framework.
Multiple squadrons can work under a “Vanguard” framework.

My fear:
Vanguard will drop like an anvil on an ant hill.

Players should be given tools to create their own content. For example:
  1. Vanguards should enable the creation of a player-made guilds (player factions).
  2. Players can request to join or be invited to a player faction.
  3. Guild bank
  4. Exchange of modules, materials, items, ships between members
  5. Good in-game chat and message features
  6. Profiles for the player faction can be viewed on the ED website.
  7. The guild can operate in the Background Sim and Powerplay on-par with NPC factions.
  8. Fully customizable headquarters facility can be built by an Architect in a colony.
  9. Throw away the term "squadron" because it is diminutive.

The three ways Elite is greater than other space games (in ascending order) are:

3. The galaxy (only the third-greatest strength because it's also problematic)
2. The flight model
1. Solo mode

Vanguards is an even easier miss for me than the thargoid war, but I hope for those who are social gamers that it blesses and enhances your gameplay in countless ways.

But I swear to the far god, if it breaks solo gameplay, I'm going to burn this galaxy to the ground. Or maybe I'll just play something else some more. Probably that.

I suspect those that expect great things from Vanguards are going to be sorely disappointed... (but also hope I am wrong in thinking so)
But, the little information the stream delivered made it sound reasonably enticing, at least in the idea of being able to 'share' with squadron members.
Whatever else it is going to deliver, I'll wait and see. But I won't be building big dreams that FD will emulate other games 🤣

Personally, I feel like it would be a shame if there's never a new way to introduce PMFs again. It's depressing to think that only the existing PMFs will ever exist, that new players, or groups, have no chance to officially exist in the same way PMFs do. So little has been shared about what Vanguards are, I'm not sure there's anything to get excited OR depressed about.
