Elite+Vive=?

I want to play Elite in my current generation Vive. I really want to. I try, it is passable, but it is not what any sane person would call "compatible." It is more like a crappy VorpX like program. Actually never mind. VorpX might look BETTER than the current state of Elite VR for the HTC Vive.

People, don't give up. We are all coming back and checking this forum for a reason. It's time to accept that FD is not going to come to their main thread and respond. We need to catch the attention of the media as well as the non VR fanbase. FD needs to be shamed for it's treatment of some of Elite's most loyal customers.

Yes, Elite is giving the Vive a bad name. Every day this problem goes unfixed, another person chooses the Oculus over the Vive. HTC and Valve need to realize this.

I'm sick of replying to their thread. If every one of us would start a NEW thread in as many of the forums as possible. Threads on fan sites. Posts on Reddit. All of the VR media sites. Just one good article about this situation by a popular VR News Site would more than likely squeeze and answer out of the Elite devs.

Please, do not just check every week for a response. Ask for one, but not on these threads.

Does anyone else get the feeling that these "official" threads exist so that nobody else recognizes this problem persists? They begin with a vague answer that offers no solution. Where are the Elite w/ Vive reviews? Where is the latest article about this, in my humble opinion, rather large hole in the VR community. I also get the feeling Oculus users feel justified in their purchase by this Vive+Elite issue. They shouldn't. Every one of us wants to think we backed the right horse, but in a year or two this current HMD "war' will have evolved. The fact is, Elite: Dangerous just does not look good on any HMD. I'm sure there are reasons and the list to correct the issue is quite large. It's probably on a parchment roll, and still not completed.

Frontier Developments needs to tell us the current state of VR in their game truthfully, and give us honest updates to ANY progress. Even if there is none.

I'm going to go report the issue to them again. Then make a new thread in several forums on several sites. I am going to tell people how the Super-Sampling "fix" is merely a small cover up over a large blemish. I need people to know it is not the Vive, it is Elite.

I think it works good if you configure SteamVR and have good PC hardware (980ti + 4.5GHz cpu). There still is a slight alising issue and a performance issue but compared to other VR artefacts like god rays etc I think it is not as big issue. I understand if you have PC hardware that is in the lower range then optimisation from FD would of course be very welcome and I agree that the support from FD is crap.

Even as a VR user now, I'm struggling to see FD actually making any progress on the Vive issue.

The reality is that only a small percentage of Elite players are playing in VR. A smaller percentage of those are either playing under the recommended specs, or are playing on the Vive that certainly does have issues in Elite. And some are perfectly happy with brute-force pixel-density pushing through the Vive performance issue.
In short, its a very small percentage of total ED users that are unhappy.

You are right, it should be fixed, to at least level the playing field.

Poor VR performance in a small proportion of users isn't going to force FD to give precious programmer time (and boutique VR programming time at that; this isn't BASIC coding in Kansas any more, Dorothy!).
There are bigger fish to fry, like adding content etc (that ol' bugbear). :)

I do agree FD need to be more open about their development (SC has raised the bar on that, although that too is largely perception).
Reporting any issue you have with the game is a good step.

Also - while I am a Rift owner (and it runs great), I carefully backed my horse specifically for ED.

Perhaps @ArsTechnica @lee_ars Lee Hutchinson could make some waves...

This is temporary, annoying but temporary. Elite is the only game that has this issue. Everything else I play in the Vive looks great, Super Sampling not needed.
