Elite / Frontier EliteDS

Dear Mr.Braben,

It would be very easy to make a version of Frontier or F:FE for the Nintendo DS. The DS would be an ideal format due to its touchscreen. Also, since there are so many DS owners throughout the world, many of whom know, or at least remember, the Elite game series, I am sure it would be very successful.

Please could you consider this, even if your own company could not find the time to make a port themselves, there is a thriving community of talented homebrew coders for the DS who would happily develop a version. I'm sure you are aware of the homebrew GBA version of the original Elite, and how popular it was when it was announced. An officially sanctioned and released version of either of the Frontier games for the DS would be so very welcomed by gamers, and definitely serve to re-invigorate the Elite brand within the industry in the build-up to the release of Elite4.

Thank you,
basilb

DS version - YES!

Don't forget a PSP version too.

Toad.

Now if there were a DS/PSP version of Elite out I would go out and buy one immediately... I would also love to see a PPC (Pocket PC version of the original elite or even a version of Frontier for it) However unlikely it may be, one can never tell what the future might bring.

I once e-mailed FD with this same question... glad to see I'm not the only one who saw the potential!

I got a reply too... A bit cryptic, and not very informative, but it did say that "I should not discount the idea"...

I choose to think this is s promissing sign!:D

There was a thing Frontier released a while ago called "Darxisw EMP" which is a PocketPC Elite like arcade style thing if you want something similar for your PocketPC.

I ofcourse meant "darxide" - fingers got transposed :)

As for porting to DS/PSP et al...not sure. It might be the case that this relies a lot on PocketPC system APIs for doing the graphics so it probably wont be a straightforward recompile etc.

Me too! :D

I believe there are too many "legal problems" for Elite to be ported, but AFAIK the Frontier games would be ok. It just needs someone - who's allowed to do it - to do it

Well if/B] it ever happens, then I'm sure there will be a lot of happy people out there, but I'm certainly not going to hold my breath, I think I'd rather just see any effort put forth into making Elite IV a reality rather than porting the past to new platforms despite how difficult/trival it may be.

I think if u asked homebrew programmers they would say it would not me that hard to port frontier or F:FE to the DS. You just have to look at what has already been ported!

Wow!

That PSP version is cool! Still a way to go though by the looks of it.

I think Frontier might have missed the boat on that one, or perhaps there is another leaving very soon.......a FFE one perhaps?? ;)

Something like this would be a great stop gap to Elite IV. Another generation of gamers could get addicted to Elite very easily.

Cheers!

DAMN SONY TO HELL!

I have a PSP and after reading the post regarding the Frontier port, I eagerly downloaded it and...

I can't run it thanks to Sony's ridiculous views on running (or rather NOT running) free, homemade stuff! - I upgraded my Firmware recently to the new 2.7, and now I'm well and truly screwed!

Anybody know how to get rid of this new firmware version?
