Elitemeet April 2017! Your invitation from the Hutton Truckers

This year, Elitemeet (the community organised event) is moving to Bristol.... Last year's in Glasgow was a rip roaring fun time and a chance for commanders to meet in real life, enjoy gaming and a social and raise money for charity.

Since the last one, players in the UK and abroad have been organising Mini-meets (affectionately known as Pizza meets as we tend to get together at Pizza restaurants) - the most recent was in OZ.

Saturday April 1st at the Mercure Hotel in Bristol until late in the evening. Ticket price includes a hot/cold buffet lunch. There is an option to join us for a 2 course dinner in the evening.

co-Hosted by Hutton, from an original name by Alien, hard work by Snos and his handler Alvin and a team of dedicated commanders including Nurse Wyeth, Void Sun, Psykokow and his brother Simoof and our local liaison Kerrash.

Last year we had Elite on PC and Xbox, an Oculus Rift, board gaming, a live Hutton Orbital sketch and broadcast performance in the evening, an acoustic set by Ed Lewis of Frontier, Elite Docking Darts organised by Splendour, Artemis bridge simulation for crews to command their own spaceship and a CQC tournament organised in conjunction with commanders from the Pixel Bandits on XBox (yes - we DID saturate with enough commanders to get plenty of game time!). I will be bringing one of the first copies of the strategy game Tak by Patrick Rothfuss (if you enjoy his books - I certainly do and the game is challenging).

This year, Specialeffect (one of the two charities we donated to last year) will be sending a representative along with hopefully some of their technology, we have faces and names from the world of Elite, including Kerrash (he of the squee), FireyToad, Paul from HCS VoicePacks (there may be a few giveaways). We will have a special edition of Echoes from the Hold for those that haven't enjoyed a copy yet. Frontier haven't confirmed WHO will be attending yet, but we had some of their team at last year's event and we nailed them down and asked difficult questions until they ran away to hide at the bar.

We have also some confirmed representation from player groups including Hutton, Paladin Consortium, Diamond Frogs and Dark Echo confirmed so far - we're hoping for a Fuel Rat or two - we're extending the invitation to everyone who wants to meet and socialise with other commanders to come and have a laugh.

As usual there will be a raffle of "items that money can't buy" from the world of Elite. All money from tickets is going to the costs of the venue hire, lunch and if you book it, dinner.... Anything over and above the costs is going to charity...

www.elitemeet.info and click on 2017! There are hotel spaces at the venue available at a special rate - quote the code from the website if you want to book a space - being a city there are other nearby hotels, but we'll be having fun until LATE in the evening. There is a bar dedicated to our event within the rooms we have hired.

More updates as we have them.

Would be good to also post this in the subreddit, ask a mod to get it stickied.

I would like an official Elite convention, like Eve Fanfest. However, to draw big crowds ED needs to be more player-driven with player managed guilds.

Are you in contact with such people and would you be up for lending a hand getting it added? (I'm not a Redditer.....). This is exactly what you describe - an event organised BY the Elite community FOR the Elite community. Third one so far. (There are other events throughout the year across the UK as well, including Lavecon).

I'm not a moderator on the subreddit. They can be messaged though.

Yeah I mean Eve Fanfest is an official organized annual event for Eve Online fans and it's 3 days in Iceland. It draws a lot of people because Eve is very player driven with player managed corporations (guilds). When Elite has guilds I think it will draw a lot bigger crowd of fans, because it'll have more social interaction and player cooperation.

I can imagine an official Elite convention in London or Cambridge, but Frontier should support it.

Reddit people messaged - thanks for the suggestion.

Tying in with Ed's Epic Commander Creator Stream (and of course, the commander creator itself), we're going to be running a competition at the event, judged by the attendees. Keep your eyes peeled for the information on how to enter and what the prize is, but we'll be asking the audience to judge YOU - the commanders of Elite Dangerous on your BEST commander creator creations. We'll be asking for a Private Eye style picture, with two images in it - one of your commander creator creation and one of a RL photo. We'll number them all up and take votes on the day for the very best interpretation of your chosen image. We'll be looking for accuracy, humour and style - can you convince an audience of Elite commanders that YOU have the skills to create a truly EPIC commander image?

If you're local - yes! Great news. We move the location each year to give everyone a chance to have one near them. Dinner is optional, but we get up to a lot once it's complete and everyone has had a jar of ale or two.

I've only booked a ticket for the convention itself right now, might add a dinner ticket later. :)

EDIT: Oh screw it, decided to buy a dinner ticket anyway xD just have to not drive in instead. If you need any assistance with local knowledge I'm happy to contribute.

We'll be there on the Fri night as well getting ready - if you wanted to join us for a bite and a pint the night before, just drop us a pm.

Of course, being an ED dinner, we're going to have to walk back and forth to the buffet, bringing back three chips at a time. (It used to be one chip at a time, but there was a recent buff)...

As long as we still have the range to do so (after taking cargo onboard).... ;)
