And for anyone asking every single shot in this trailer is gameplay, absolutely nothing is pre-rendered in engine.

Unbelievably proud of the team who’ve put this together. Odyssey IS a giant leap for Elite Dangerous. o7 Commanders

I don't think anyone questions that, it just didn't show anything about what the actual gameplay will be like, how anything will work, ect..

I don't doubt that it was in-game is they say so.
However, since those atmospheric effects look pretty graphics intensive, I'd also like to know
  • was it real time (i.e. did they render it at the framerate that was shown in the vid)?
  • if yes, what kind of hardware did they run on?

I don't think I saw anything all that special about it to make anyone believe it was not actual highish end PC gameplay footage. It looked really good, great even, but not to the point I thought the "IN-GAME FOOTAGE" tag was a lie and that it was actually prerendered.
Well, in this genre you've had people claiming stuff was in-game (oh so close to release) and lying about it so.... 😛

The question is not if it is in-game footage, but if it is regular gameplay.

I mean if you look at the ED space flight / combat trailers, you will see various ships flying together, fighting, jumping etc. And when i say various, i do mean it.

IF you check The Journey So Far trailer, 1:28 - you see a glimpse of a nice combat with Corvette, Anaconda, Cobra, Eagles, Adder and other. Not like you will meet something like that in game. It may resemble a CZ fight, but really vague and definitely not a PVP encounter where you will meet only FDL with the random Kraits/Mamba

Same goes for the fleet jumping at 1:40 - those are not normal occurrences (sure, a sort of similar jump happened probably in DW2) but really special events, not something that may be called regular gameplay.

Yea, FD trailers are really nice, but they're not really representative for something that will be normally encountered in the game.
That kind of combat footage i would expect to encounter in a UT/CS match, not in ED.

I didn't expect anything less realy, there's nothing wrong with the looks of ED so Odyssey will perform well in that department too imho.
I'm more interested in actual gameplay, besides combat, graphics are nice but definitely not the one thing that makes a game good.

If they want me to pre-order Odyssey they should show off more actual gameplay not just some shiny camera footage.
To be frank, I don't understand Fdev's tight lipped behaviour regarding upcomming features while in the mean time they try to get people on board the hype train, it's counter productive imho.
I'm impressed by Odyssey's looks, the rest not so much up until now.

Yes, it was in-game, but they also had a camera account recording the gameplay.
Speaking of which... Any measures to prevent scouting ahead using the vanity camera, whilst still not removing it? :7
...that said - I could see a remote scout drone with a camera link, as an optional part of one's arsenal, for attaching to one of those two poles on top of the backpack... :7

I recall the CM's, probably Arthur, mentioning there is no external camera while on foot in Odyssey.
