Elite's Information Economy

As well as a lot of technical bits and bobs, the proposal currently in the DDF touches on Elite's economy of information - reclaiming bounties, trading map data, and generally converting concepts to cash. I'm sure drew could explain it better, but I think of these as a third class of financial instruments alongside credits and commodities.

Since the information economy will be one of the big themes of the 21st century, where do you stand on the topic? Does information want to be free, or should artists be compensated for their work? In the context of a game, does it make sense to "sell" your information (and no longer have access to it), or should you "share" it (and make copies)? Would you want to stick DRM on your in-game assets so you could control their resale?

In the game we need to find a balance between the free sharing of information and marketing. But I think that some important information (in the game of course) must be in a class of financial instruments and sold. An explorer, must sell his discoveries and make profits, naturally

Something pushes me to play a secondary character that's just going to spoil secrets around.

:p

Boy, do You all see how great this game will be?! Or it's just me?
