Elite's Still In Beta

I see guys or gals complaining all about this and that, when in fact the games still in BETA!, of course bugs are annoying, however you should always keep in mind that, that's what to expect from a beta. No point complaining about a game that's not even released yet, saying its broken or whatever. I'm 20, i never had a chance to play the Original, however i see and feel the passion these older guys have with Elite, especially with my dad being one of them, New Comers - Stop Complaining and be happy for what you'v got, Frontier have LOTS! more to come, be patient. All you need is common-sense to understand its still in beta geez.

As long as people are being constructive, I'm sure the developers are welcoming the feedback. Do I have rose-tinted glasses of how I remember Frontier Elite? Hell yeah, but I also want a balanced multiplayer experience etc. I would like for the developers to tell the community the best way of reporting issues/improvements if they haven't already.

I'm sure everyone will read this, adjust their expectations accordingly, and start moderating their posting style ;)

Everything ontopic is alright, just....more tolerance to other opinions and less forum warfare please. Not only this not gonna work here, but it also make forums very noisy. This is not shouting fest.

Regarding general criticism and feedback I think FD welcomes it with open arms. They are thick skinned enough to filter essence of the reports :)

It's all well and good saying it's in Beta, but I think it would really help if there was something obvious that explained which bits of the game are currently placeholder. For instance, there are a lot of tears generated when players lose their ship and don't have enough to cover the insurance. The DDA death penalty topic explains that won't always be the case, and that should serve to lessen the blow somewhat.

So I can understand that someone new to the game who hasn't read all the supporting material could think that this is it, and we're simply bug hunting. We aren't, and a lot will still change between now and Gamma / release.

bugs annoying? I LOVE BUGS! its my second fav thing to hunt after sidewinders!

the more of those pesky bugs we root out and blast now the better the chances the final release will be bug free!

there is a lot of info available if you read the known issues thread and the release notes, over and above that if FDev spent their time detailing everything that is to be improved/implemented there wouldn't be much time left to finish writing the game!

Patience is the key of course.

Newcomers to the game and the forums will sometimes need to be schooled in it, but it is up to us as "the community" to make sure that we don't lose our patience because of their lack of it.

Many do seem to forget that this is still in development and is not a complete game. ED is also unforgiving by design when compared to most modern games. This will make it a love or hate game which is fine by me since I'm in the former.

I know there's a lot of info. I've read pretty much all of it, and contributed in the DDF where I felt strongly enough. So I know what's coming, and my expectations of the Beta releases are set accordingly. But those new to the game aren't likely to go reading all the DDA posts, so their impression of the game will be based on what they're playing. It's understandable that they'd assume that if something's in the game that it's complete.

I also think peoples expectations have been skewed by other games being in permanent Beta. An example is World of Tanks. Despite having eclipsed World of Warcraft in revenue some time ago It still has not been released as an end product and is in continual Beta. Lets be fair, WoT is a fully commercialised product and was in a viable 1.0 release state years ago but for whatever reason they are still naming it a Beta.

So when a game like ED comes along in a genuine Beta development phase, some folks seem to think that they should be getting a damn near finished product.

Nope, a Beta is a Beta and there are no hard or fast rules as to how developed it needs to be to be called such.

Just enjoy the development process :D
