Ever wanted to write for an Elite fan site to share your knowledge?

Elitestories.co.uk is here to give you the chance, the site is dedicated to bringing the most accurate, up to date Elite: Dangerous information to our users as possible, game details, background history and every bit of canon lore we can extract from the public domain. A lot of information is already available about E: D but it is widely spread and hosted on many websites. Elite stories will become a central nexus providing ease of access to just the detail you need, without all the hunting.

News, reviews, interviews – we want it all, especially articles that are accessible to everyday readers who may have no knowledge of the game or no experience of the fast moving, acronym driven world of the PBF, DDF and FD forums in general.

If you have either a one-off piece or would like to be a regular contributor please join the Elitestories.co.uk forums and state your willingness to participate in the introductions section.

A private site content forum has been set up for additions to the front pages. This is to enable people to work on new content in a group environment with the help of other users. We have members who specialise in proofing and editing, as well as grammar and punctuation so that with our assistance, your piece can be the best it could possibly be.

Writing articles not your thing? We are always looking for talented people to assist our members in the following areas:

• Proofreading
• Grammar
• Punctuation
• Research

Additionally the wider forums, being aimed at writers in general, will need people to assists with things like plot, structure, dialog and the 101 other things that go into making a good story great.

If you would like to contribute or would like to know more, either post here and I’ll do my best to answer your questions or join our forums as mentioned above.

the things you mention will be the main sources of information for the site, user comment, analysis, favorite ships seen so far. but there could also be articles about fan creations, other fan sites, artwork inspired by the game - i cant find the thread but the user whose 5 year old drew the ships and had one redone by FD artists would make a great story. a bit about Lave Radio and what they are doing, basically bringing this community to a wider audience

I'm glad everyone likes it, its amazing what you can do with a free template and a few space hour's if you have a little html/code experience


I'm looking into php news plugins to make adding content easier at the moment, it's been a while since i was a site admin but it's all coming back

And... it just got better, I've just added the modx content management system and web application framework to the front page, this is for publishing content and once i have a few templates ready adding to the front pages will be a snap.

quite proud of myself actually, it only took me 12 hours from first downloading the modx package to getting the site running with the pages i'd built integrated into the cms, not bad for someone who hasn't touched html in 5 years

but seriously, I'll see about packing up all the images the front page uses so you have templates to work from, i should be available.

content is king as they say and i am so glad you're offering to write some but what they don't tell you about is the hundreds of palace staff it takes to serve up that content.

once i have a few templates in place i'll be able to add content quite rapidly, I'm working on a nice and complex drop-down menu system for the site right now, i don't think 6 links is going to cut it for long.

I started yesterday with a free drop down menu i got from here and have spent today deleting the rubbish while nicking the good bits.

I now have this, it doesn't look a lot different except its got my banner and footer but its now all running in chunks, both the menu and the footer can now be added to a template or page with a command like this in the html {{esmenubar}}


I'm climbing a fairly steep learning curve as i haven't coded for years, even then only basic html but it only took me 12 hours from first opening the install guide to get modx running on 2 servers with my original page layout as a template, plus another 8 to get the menu working, i think i'm doing quite well

some nice banners there dude, should fill a few pages.

if your up for it the next image related mission is skinning up.

the forums will need some writing related backgrounds, a few colour schemes and a header image or two.

if you look in our site content forum there are a few useful links in the forum styles thread.

if you want a test site setup to play with the skins and get used to it, give me a shout & i'll set one up on the other server for you.

I'm in the process of learning css while breaking the pages down into chunks so will be about if needed.

thanks mate, in other news, It's Alive (insert evil laugh)

i decided to try a different approach as i wasn't having a lot of luck building a template from scratch so i reworked the original. i can now add a page with an identical layout in about a second and a half, content takes longer


EDit: just made out a list of all the stuff i have to (learn how to) do over the next few weeks for the layout and structure of the site.

I want to be writing content but in order to do that i need to add the role of researcher to the site staff. given the information all posted in one thread with links to the originals means that i could pump out four or five large pieces of content a week without much of a problem, provided i have the source materiel.

anyone interested apply as in the OP, after you post your first bit of article research you'll get access to the site content forums of ES.co.uk where the real work happens

No problem to the link, and i really liked your story extract, the two male characters played out fine( and like you don't know who she is yet)

I see a lot of material in the Thargoid and Fer-de-Lance pub to make some exciting and bizarre fiction but your writing has a great hook.
