Elusive geysers

Commanders derpy Asari needs your help with exploration.
It's about geysers - I found alien ruins, crash sites, went through hyperspace interdiction,saw itall but I can't find any of those volcanic wonders no matter how much time I spend looking for them.
Now, I went through videos and topics on the subject some time ago so I know the basic stuff (at least I think so).
I also came across mentioned pixel wide dots on the scanner on the planets that mentioned volcanism on the surface - great! So I pin point them with my fighter and then deploy SRV - nothing. Scanner is silent, I drive around in spiral to see if its there - nothing.
Is it possible they spawned on me under the "ground" (I saw this mentioned few times) and I`m simply terribly unlucky? I know those features suppose to be very rare but its almost like broken for me.
Or maybe guides I`v been looking on are outdated now. Any ideas/tips welcome.

There are some famous tourist attraction ones in Sol that actually show up on your scanners in supercruise.. nice big icy ones...

Well thats one way to do it (did not think of that so thanks guys!) - still I have no idea what went wrong with "non existent" signal sources I have found.

This. And the mission list even gives you the names of the beacons to visit, so you'll be able to directly pick the ones with lava spouts, fumaroles, ice geysers, etc.
