elute dangerous single player / multiplayer

Hi just submitted my pledge for the game, so pleased this game hopefully will get the development it deserves. I remember playing this on the spectrum for hrs and days.. and although im now nearly 40 and don't play pc games i could not resist this...my question is about the pledges...do these extras such as decals, ships and starting points etc only apply to the multiplayer or do they also work in the single player? Also i understand some interesting add ons are planned for future, the same applies...

welcome, must have missed the kickstarter for Elute Dangerous.

if the game is like Elite Dangerous then i imagine that single player and multiplayer will be the same regarding starting postition and extras.

Hi Rochester
Firstly welcome to the forum and thanks for backing the game. Now to your question. Yes it's an interesting one that I am afraid I cant give a definitive answer to, however I would assume that any extra game features that are not totally linked to the multiplayer game itself, would also be available in singleplayer mode. Frontier have said they aim to make the game as seamless as possible between the two modes of play. So things like decals, missions, custom star systems ect to my mind would be in the singleplayer game too. :)

Yeah, Elute ok... im typing during a board meeting on new lumia, rubbish keyboard screen auto spell check sometimes messes up words..

Ta that sounds interesting, have followed a lot of the dev talk and its interesting reading, esp how its very open.

They better had be... I reckon there are plenty of us out here who will be using SP mode.

Yup here too, just discussing it with a few guys/girls from our IT and turns out their pledgers too which makes me feel not so geeky but they said same as well and that kind of was what i was inferring, i think a lot would just want to keep to sp, mp would have to have something pretty impressive..but remain relatively free..

Potentially you should be able to create a group with just your friends/colleagues, so you can meet up with each other and play co-op, without the hassle of meeting anyone else.

I'd definitely keep multiplayer in mind for Elite: Dangerous.
I've always hated MMOs and multiplayer in general....just the very idea.
So I get (and often argue for on other game forums) wanting to keep the single player experience.

But I think the dynamics will be very different from any other game in this new Elite. The universe will be so big and after the inital launch, once you're outside the heavily policed core systems, people will be so spread out, that I think the online experience will be more akin to playing a single player game where you happen to see another real person every now and then :)

What Slawkenbergius and SAB380 said.

My experience of multiplayer is very limited - but I do get the impression that the instance and group thing being proposed should allow even committed single players to find like minded peeps and play co-operatively against the machine - if they wanted to.

It seems it's a very contentious subject for some people - particularly on the SC site - a thread on it went from zero to 900 odd posts in a couple of days...

I really hope its that way - ppl usually meet on big hubs building convois for trading or hunting - but in the deep space its possibly a surprise if you meet someone out there

so, SP and MP easily can be combined, me thinks

For me personally single player games are pretty much obsolete and just don't give me any thrill like multiplayer games do. When I heard Elite: Dangerous would be single player I thought it was going to be one I was going to miss. However it will have multiplayer which I hope will work similar to an MMO will, so it is definitely one I will be playing.

However, I do hope both types of game play meet the expectations of the players. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to have all the cool addons and decals available to single players. I imagine it would work something like this:

  • Install the game.
  • Create an account on the Elite 4 website (probably already done if you have pledged)
  • Connect to the game server.
  • Download all the cool stuff you are entitled too, plus updates etc...
  • Disconnect from the game server.
  • Play single player.
  • Reconnect to the game server and download any new cool stuff when available.
  • Only difference is that multiplayers will be permanently connected to the game server with real time updates, game events etc as they happen.

I see it being something like that.

I see it being something like that.

I also think this 'evolving' SP-Mode will be somewhat like this.

There is a poll running btw. asking for the players preference SP or MP.

I'm surprised about almost 50% will play offline.

Hope this is going to change when FD is releasing Infos speaking for MP.
