Embarrassing moments

So hopefully I am not the only person in the elite universe to have had a complete and utter fail moment. This would probably be best left as a secret but I am the first to laugh at myself so in the spirit of good humour here is my story.

In my pursuit of trying everything the game has to offer my latest exploits have been pirating (npcs) and I have been enjoying it so far even if the rewards are minimal. So in my quest to retrieve that ever better booty I try a well populated high tech system. All is going well until I spot a type 6 transporter flying about a res zone. I notice a couple of wingmen following said prey but me being in a viper mk4 and them being sidewinders I laugh at the mere notion of being in any form of danger (can you see where this is going yet?)

After a battle that took faaaaar longer than it should have, I manage to rid myself of these pesky gnats but not before they have managed to strip me of my shields. I would like to point out at this point that I am normally more than capable of holding out against hordes of these ships. These two though just seemed to be everywhere at once!

Anyway, after taking a deep breath to calm myself, I turn on the lumbering type 6. I swing round, line up for a firing run and BOOM!! Cannon fire straight into my face. No shields to soak up the shot and bam there goes my canopy. Now I have 30 mins here. I could easily pop off a couple of shots, launch a hatch breaker and be off with some ill gotten goods before I suffocate. But all that is going through my mind was that I got beat by a couple of sidewinders and a space donkey 😒 I had to get out of there and quick before anyone saw me!!

As I said I'm hoping that I'm not the only person to have had a "moment" such as this. Feel free to share your horrifying moments, if only to help me feel better for myself 😂

TL/DR: npc sidewinders and a type 6 wiped the floor with me while I was in a viper mk4. Commence shameful tears

I fly an Anaconda and its not the easiest ship to get into the slot at the best of times. Today I had what I thought was a simple smuggling mission to the next system which I have been to many times. So I disengage and start to line myself up for my speed run into the station. I am 15k out and on a steep of an angle and so ignoring the whisper in the back of my head to align better, thinking it should be easy, I start my approach. Full pips to engine and boosting away. At 7km I call for docking and still not aligned the best. At the last minute, 200km per hour I am still not aligned the best and scrape through the slot, tearing up paint etc. Not the best entrance. lol

Haha the moment that you start bouncing about in the entry slot. I think of those as pinball moments 😆

Great story!

Don't let sidewinders fool you.

I got a bit arrogant in my FDL once, because I was wiping the floor with anything I came across. Anacondas, other FDLs, wings of Anacondas... I even took on 2 Imperial Cutters at a CZ... And won.

Then a lone Elite NPC sidewinder showed up at my hazres.

Could I hit it?

No. The mental pilot had an infinite number of chaffs, and was too agile to hit in fixed mode! (I'm a rubbish shot with fixed weapons)
Couldn't even get close enough to ram him.
I actually had to flee in the end....

Another sidewinder incident was when I interdicted a wing of 9 mixed sidewinders. Turns out, 18 class 1 weapons will overrun your mental SCB tank...
I did manage to kill 4 before legging it!
However my repair bill came to 100x what I earned in bounties from the 4 sidewinders....

Lol
Last time I tried to speed dock my Anaconda, I ended up tangled in the toast rack...

Before I figured out how to disable boost while the landing gear was deployed (I am sure you know where this is going,,,) I was coming in to deliver a load of fish. My wife called me for something, don't recall what, but while trying to do a quick dock, I overshot the pad slightly so I reached to push my reverse thruster button which was (yup, you guessed it) right next to the boost button.

Well,,,,,

The look on my face must have been hysterical as I heard the boost cycle spooling up and,,,, Oh Geez, Nuts, MOTHER OF SIX!!!!! Why did,,,,,

Pop.

I actually lost my Anaconda on its 2nd undock. It got stuck in the mail slot and couldn't get out before the station blasted it to pieces.

Turns out I had wrongly used the conda's long snout as a centre point reference and failed to account for its big belly.

The stupid accident really hurt since I had no money for a 2nd rebuy and lost 452 t of Imperial slaves.

Another stupid mistake was to disable my FSD for repairs while supercruising

also npc piracy, also tonight...

i interdict a t6, cargo scan him - jackpot! 25 scientific samples, that's 2,5 millions. and some gold.

the hardest part is to shoot out his powerplant with a python, without destroying him - he turns always the wrong side to me, boosts, chaffs, his hull goes down, shall i use the hatchbreaker now? and loose some of that juicy cargo to canister-degration? No! with a lot of patience i somehow manage it do kill his powerplant, ne stops with 2% hull. i cargo scan him again, to enjoy my won challenge, i line up perfectly to collect his cargo and to see the hatchbreaker working, i activate my cargo limpets, i switch firegroup to fire the hatchbreaker -

and i'm in the wrong firegroup. there goes my large frag cannon, and with it the t6 and all of his cargo.

My most embarrassing moment was probably when I was starting out many months ago in my very first Sidewinder. Went to retract my landing gear and lift off from the pad to leave the station, only to hit the boost button instead of the vertical thruster. After a brief game of Sidewinder Pinball
(the station won)
I decided to take a long, hard look at my key bindings.

Embarrassing I dont know but panicky yes..

On day playing, not completely sober, I pressed something and my hud was gone, luckily for me I was just traversing at the time, and mates on TS cleared it up for me, THAT was embarrassing not knowing the key combo.

Cheers Cmdr's
