So it's the year 3305 and we essentially have conscious AIs in our spaceships. You're flying somewhere outside the bubble on your way back from Distant Worlds 2 and doing some neutron star boosts. After a while you decide it's time to rest up and do some repairs with your AFMU. You begin repairing your modules and get to Life Support. You immediately get a warning saying that you have 10 seconds of oxygen left. Time runs out before the repair is complete and your ship explodes.
Now, why didn't the AI intervene? Life Support refills cost 2 iron and 1 nickel. The most common and easiest materials to acquire. And you're a veteran so your hold is maxed out with both iron and nickel and you can make life support refills 100x over. But this supposedly self-aware AI doesn't seem to care that not only itself, but the pilot as well are both going to die and the AI can't make the executive decision that it would probably be a good idea to craft a life support refill seeing as we have the resources and we're about to die? That just seems a little silly to me.
I recently had this exact scenario happen to me. I was repairing my ship as I had done plenty of times before which, if you don't make a life support refill once you finish repairing, then the reserve O2 remaining will deplete slowly each time until your original time of 7:30 minutes is down to 10-20 seconds without you knowing and you blow up. I think there should be an option somewhere to enable an emergency automatic oxygen generation system for cases like this. Or even better, just make it to where no matter what, if you're about to run out of reserve O2 and you have the materials, the COVAS just crafts it for you.
