Emergency Board Ship/Discard Backpack Contents

There is an existing thread for this but its last post was 2021 and I think I'm not allowed to necro?

So I need advice on this:

This makes no sense to me. I'm fighting in a CZ using the Frontline dropships, it lets me go back to the station. Then I decide to reenlist for another CZ, the dropship is booked, I walk to it and only THEN get the warning? How was I able to fly back to the station, then, if I had too much stuff to board the ship? If it is only meant to apply when boarding one's own ship (which presumably it would if I recalled my ship to the edge of the CZ once I won the battle) why would it come up to prevent me boarding the "new" dropship at the station?

I suppose it's because you don't enter the dropship in the CZ with the same dialogue you enter the dropship in the port, so the check for inventory onlyhappens at the port.

Or more likely, say you have a full inventory of grenades n stuff when you enter the Frontline dropship, but since you’re on the station concourse your inventory’s empty initially. You go to the CZ where you’re awarded “free” grenades and such through the dropship (they don’t seem to be pulled from your inventory in that case or when you respawn), then back inside after the CZ, you have ‘too much stuff’ and are faced with an extremely unhelpful UI message not telling you where the problem is.

I’ve encountered this once myself when somebody dropped a rare (Odyssey) data item required for an engineer unlock, for me. After picking it up and trying to board their ship (because I’d been using shuttles to move around), I was faced with that utter nonsense of “Emergency Boarding” in the utter middle of nowhere with nothing at all shooting at me, or the ship, and no possible threats nearby.

Just “Backpack contents will be discarded”.

It was not until I figured out the ‘problem’ of extra grenades and utility deployable(s) beyond capacity, that I could board [without the game ditching the data item in the same process as well].

👆It's because they give you free grenades. I only see it if something interrupts the normal flow of events like the server dies and I respawn back at the station and sign up again. Dunno what the expected procedures or flags are but if the normal event flow occurs I think it accounts for it somehow.

Just seems weird I can board the dropship with those extra grenades on a planet surface, but not back at the station later (exact same dropship which brought me back to the station). They should check it on the planet.

Does anyone know what happens if a pirate interdicts a dropship? I think they can. Or maybe it is Apex taxis they interdict. A real CMDR could interdict me, I get sent to prison, then get the "warning" about emergency boarding at the prison as if I was put in a cell still carrying grenades!!!

You can't interdict any transports.
Interesting. There must be a way to go to prison after a CZ though? Or can I go to another settlement (I have one 200m, might be able to walk it!), go commit crimes, and if I die, I go back to the station I got the combat mission from, rather than prison?
