Emergency "Help Me" module

One thing I would like to see added in the next patch is an Emergency module, to be fitted to an Utility mount. The function of the module is to put out a signal saying you are in trouble and need help. For example: you are cruising deep space and see a USS appear. But this USS is coloured red (or some other indicator) signifying that someone there is in trouble and have activated their emergency beacon. Same thing at a RES or Nav Beacon, except the ships icon on the radar is a different colour. Maybe have it programmed that any Security Forces in the vicinity will come to your aid.

It will allow those players who enjoy helping those that need help. I know at times I have been interdicted or caught in a furball and wished there was a way to summon help. A couple of rules though I think will need to be enforced - only those that are clean can activate it and it doesn't always guarantee that help will come. Of course those that are inscrutable might use it to set up other players, space is after all, a dangerous place! But it might be useful for the traders and explorers amongst us that aren't fitted for combat.

Additionally (and yes slightly off-topic) I would like some type of recognition, even if it is just a thank you message from the ship or faction when I save them from pirates etc. You know the scenario, you see a clean T9 being attacked by a wing, you swoop in, take out the wing. Yes you get their bounties but you did just save the T9, surely a Thank You isn't too much lol

I like the idea of a distress beacon for situations like running out of fuel or having your canopy blown out and being left for dead.

Believe it or not, we started out with one in the open beta phase, pre-release. It was removed prior to the initial game launch--due, I believe, to the issue Wolf just mentioned. Eventually, if I'm remembering right, everybody simply ignored beacons to the point where they may as well not have existed, because they assumed it was just pirates. So the devs took them out.

I remember the Beacon that created a Text Box for the NPC refueling ship but not one for actual players for come to

Rather than be sat there waiting indefinitely for rescue, I'd prefer an "Abandon Ship" function where I could use the escape pod without blowing up my ship, then go buy a sidewinder or Cobra with extra fuel, then go get my ship back. Then, my abandoned ship would appear as a specific Nav Marker when I get back to the system, with a ship-transfer option that "sacrifices" the new one, 10 second auto-destruct Picard Authorization Alpha Tango.

True true ... no cmdr will pay close or over his issurance/cargo price.

I can tell you're not an explorer. If you've got 3,000 scanned systems in your computer and run into a string of T-tauris 10,000ly from human space you'd be staring at losing tens of millions.

So 1% +1% per 5000 light years round trip then?

I have 2 thoughts on this. One, might I suggest then a way to tow ships. If you run to go get another ship in your escape pod then why not come back and haul it to a station. Two, with the towing idea in mind, building off your abandoned ship nav beacon, why not let everyone in system see the nav beacon and who knows maybe someone, like myself, that happens to be in system with a tow hook can come by and snatch up a nice free ship sitting there.

Also, the tow hook idea would be a great addition to the emergency beacon. Lets say you answer a distress call and don't have enough fuel to spare, just tow the distressed back to civilization. For a fee of course cuz its all about profitssss.

We could call it 'The Fishing Lure', because that's what it'd get used for - Pirates trying to entice unsuspecting souls to an ambush.

There's ways to limit that happening. Firstly you should have to tag what you are willing to pay to be rescued. This would be visible to any would be rescuers.

Secondly if you attack a ship that turns up to help you become wanted in every system with a large bounty. You also incur a large immidiately dedected fine which is scalable to your respective wealth.

That should ensure the rescue beacon is not overly abused.

It was funny, because back in the beta before the game came out, this was actually in the "Functions" tab of your right-pane window. A dialogue would pop up, saying that you could purchase fuel for a higher price (but it wasn't that high). It made exploring the beta area much easier. Now if only they would add that, but also make it an actual NPC that had "travel time" from the nearest destination to you, so you'd have to wait and hope to not be attacked or anything ;-)

That is why I suggested that the function should only work with a cleanskin, i.e. if you are wanted it won't work. At least then any pirate wing would have to have at least one ship that isn't wanted, and I don't think that situation would last very long lol
