Emergency Thrusters

The return of Emergency Thrusters or Smarter A.I.

I'm rather new to the game, started playing when the game went live on the 16th. I've read on the forums that there used to be emergency thrusters, I'd like to see this return. When a random npc interdicts me, Demands cargo(my hold was completely empty o.0) then blows my thrusters out when I don't hand over the cargo it supposedly saw, I'm supposed to Kill myself? Not going to happen. I was 58Ls from the federation port in the Khnemurt System, on my way to turn in a voucher for 20k credits. So, because of an NPC deciding I had cargo when I didn't, I plan on staying in the system, with no thrusters. I wish you all fun and pleasant days. If this gets fixed where A.I. are Smarter and realize that an empty hold means no cargo, or Emergency Thrusters return, I'd defiantly start playing again.

Destroyed thrusters should not be a kin to death, there should be some way to limp home or call for help and be towed

Does it?
Last reports say it cannot fix; Hull, Power Plant or Thrusters.

I've found several souces...one said just not the hull, one said not the hull, powerplant or drives (is that thrusters or FSD) and another said 'most' modules. Testing required.

The Auto-Mechanics ONLY repairs Modules, not your Structure or Armour; even when it repairs them it will never do it to 100%.
So yes, it does Repair Thrusters enough to limp home.. but as it has limited Ammo, is 100% Automatic and only provides Repair Priority from Top-Down the Module List based on Power Priority; sometimes it will repair everything BUT; especially as Weaponry is ALWAYS higher on the list.
.
This said I do think there should be a means outside of the ARM to actually repair modules enough, as I was hunting a Python; he got a lucky shot off on me disabling my shields and thrusters leaving me zipping along at 242m/s and soon he was completely out of my view. Everything else was absolutely fine, so I could charge my FSD it just wouldn't recognise the throttle was stuck on Max... after about 20-30mins of initially contemplating what to do, and going for a shower; figured the only thing I could do was simply self-destruct and take the hit of 350k in insurance; which was unpleasant to say the least.
.
I mean I had more than enough time to open up the canopy, throw some duct tape on it; good as new, right?! Well it does suck that something like this is basically getting killed; like if your power plant is taken out... which again I'd rather that had a CHANCE to blow up but most of the time just powered down your ship to 'Emergency Power', so yeah I'd like to see Emergency Thrusters too. I mean we do have Emergency Air as part of the Life Support Package, perhaps Emergency Thrusters and Power could be features of those Modules; that the Higher the Grade the better the Emergency Systems for them are (but still clearly temporary)

It should be impossible to render a ship completely helpless. The easy thruster destruction is a horrible mechanic.

There's a module that can repair your ship. It will auto repair your thrusters. If you don't have one installed... well... sucks.

No. It already is, and should be, entirely possible to render a ship helpless.

The very first (beta) "Emergency Thrusters" mechanic was FUN.

[edit]At present, the following is incorrect:

AFM will not repair thrusters.

Not sure it should be impossible.

The easy thruster destruction is a horrible mechanic.

It definitely shouldn't be easy.

If I was designing I think I'd make thrusters difficult to disable entirely but when they are disabled, seven times out of ten it would cause a catastrophic chain reaction, back to the power plant which, being unable to vent, destroys the ship in a fireball. Self destruct only one time out of ten, because twenty percent of the time somehow you do manage to get them back online but all the while bearing in mind that thrusters were difficult to disable in the first place. Progressive degradation of their effectiveness being another matter ...

Seriously, this is infuriating beyond belief. Not sure how my A-rated thrusters got one shotted by a 'conda. Then I float there like an idiot forever, and the 'conda can't land a single hit.

Hull 90%, shields 100%, thrusters 0%.

Only option: self destruct. It's the future, makes perfect sense. /ragequit

My thrusters were blown out and I had a repair kit. You cannot repair thrusters. I had to self destruct. However, in real life I would have launched my escape pod, grabbed a repair vessel, came back, fixed the ship, and then towed my repair vessel back to the station behind it.
