Emotional Attachment to Ships

Reading the latest newsletter, I am excited to see we may own multiple ships. Those who played the previous installments will remember if you decided to change careers, often you had to sell off your vessel for one better suited for that role.

I don't know how many ships one can own, or if it requires hangars or some sort of slot you can rent or whatever. But even just two ships will be great for me.

There is one thing I wonder about and would like everyones opinion on. Emotional attachment to your vessel. In Frontier and Elite sometimes, even with those graphics etc. I would feel sad for selling my Clipper for an Asp and vice versa. But in the end, all ships would be the same. I guess the same issue occurred with crew.

In E:D the detail on ships will be fantastic. One day we can see our ships interior. We may walk outside the ship on a planet surface. I imagine, no, know already I will fall in love with my ships. It might be hard to let them go.

And it turns out, we might not have to! Relief. I don't need to own all 30 ships. But I think I will always have an Asp standing by...

So what are your feelings about this?

One of my earliest posts here was similar to this, one of the things that annoyed me about EVE was that your ship is basically throw-away, there was no emotional attachment. I look forward to caring about my ship. And when I lose one (and I will) I will cry.

This was covered in previous newsletters. You can already have multiple ships - when you upgrade you get the option to retain your current ship. Go have a look at the shipyard tab in-game now ;)

Personally I see myself having a few ships suited to different tasks so I can swap them as the moods take me.

More to the point. What will our ships think about us when we leave their lives?

The ship would be thinking, 'No matter how agile I am this dumb human still managed to let bullets put holes in me and lasers to scorch me, however I have not died yet so maybe they are able to learn........nah, who am I kidding that was just dumb luck....'

And during docking it would be more like 'OMG HELP ME!!!!, Not the back wall, not again, PLEASE NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!, ........oh this is a surprise i'm alive and in the hanger......'

Finally when you move on and leave your ship behind it would be, 'Thank goodness now I can relax for a while, that last pilot made me age by a whole decade each time we flew through the letterbox, now I can relax, stretch out my landing gear and read the evening holonet.......', new commander steps into the poor ship and the ship thinks, 'Dammit Jim, I'm getting too old <snip>.......

edit: odd reason for an Moderator edit given, I have never used the report function yet, so are you sure you did not mean something else Mr.Moderator?
