Empire and the clipper

So first let me say the empire make me sick.

That at said my current goal is an imperial clipper.
My question is, is ranking up broken? I have no rank with them yet but I'm sure I've seen posted about the ranking is broken.
Also what rank is required for the clipper?

any help appreciated CMDRS

Ranking missions can be a bit buggy and even when they aren't you'll need to be patient as it can be ages before one turns up. You'll need Baron rank for the Clipper.

Took me 4 baron rank missons but eventually i got baron. Its not broke broke just broke in the sense i had to do a few to get there. But to be honest the clipper aint all its cracked up to be.

Its fast and........errr.......did i say it was fast.

It's lacking in firepower. Lacking in module space and the biggest issue i had with it is its p*ss weak sheilds.

Turns like a cow too.

My only issues with the Clipper are it's inability to dock at outposts and the weak shields regardless of what shield gen and amount of shield boosters you shoe horn onto it.

Are you guys flying the same Clipper as I am? I wouldn't agree with either of those statements, yeah it's not as powerful/tough as the Python or Fer-de-Lance but it's also significantly cheaper, actually it's quite nicely balanced, which is somewhat of a rarity in this game.

Are you serious? It turns like a Cobra actually. The only thing that's bad and gives the 2 points in maneuverability maybe is tha lateral thrusters (up/down / left/right). They're crap.
Turn rates are great, yaw is great, speed is great. Personally I'd say 6/10 Maneuverability is definitely more accurate than 2/10. But if you fit it like a tank and make it heavy, maybe there's a big difference then. Anyway the clipper definitely is no tank (it is not a combat, but a multi role ship; you can fit 200+T cargo with ease), you have to use different combat tactics here. It can outrun any ship besides a Cobra and isn't so easy to mass lock. Means you can run away whenever you like.

Shields are also not that weak (fit 2 shield boosters and you're fine), It just seems so beacuse the clipper is a big target compared to e.g. a Python. So you won't miss it. and maybe the shields have to take more DPS than on a smaller ship.

It's definitely worth the 20MCr for it's value.

Its not working properly, but it is possible to move up the ranks, i spent 3 to 4 days working on ranking up to the clipper and did get it, and this is what i recommend:

First, get the vulture with 2 gamboled pulse lasers and 2 chaff, the lvl 5 shield generator and lvl 4 shield bank. (this load out has proven to be amazing in conflict zones, just hokey the shield cells and chaff, and note that shield cells have a 5 second delay and only work on active shields)

Second: find a conflict zone in the empire where an empire faction is fighting an independent, (you can see the affiliation on the ranks tab on the right panel, and then look at the system factions tab to see who is at war.)

Third: every time you head to station to cash in your vouchers, (i recommend every half hour or every 500k whichever comes first) look at the bulletin board for any missions by the imperial navy, always accept these, then look for missions for the faction you are fighting for, accept any currior missions that you can, as they will increase rep in your system and the system you are delivering to, any other of their missions are up to you, fighting is giving you rep so doing their missions is not necessary.

Fourth: if you have spent more than an hour in any system bounty hunting, trading, mining or just being there, travel back to see if you have imperial navy missions there.

If you have to abandon an imperial navy mission, only do so after completing enough other missions to put your rank up anyway.

If you have been in a system a while but cant find any navy missions check other stations, as you may find missions there.

This is how i achieved the rank of baron in 3-4 full days of playing, if you are playing after work or school, or just are busy it will take longer.

Hope this helps you rank up and have fun at the same time, and remember that clipper has over 1 million in re buy costs and will need about 4 million in upgrades to use. (the starting shields and jumprange suck)
