Empire Navy Missions...

Not complaining...just making an observation.

I am allied with Empire, and have pledged to an Empire faction. One thing I was sort of going for was to gain rank to acquire the Imperial Clipper...and I do get the occasional Imperial Navy mission to advance...but I have to ask...

Why on earth is every mission illegal? Am I just having bad luck, or is this the way it is supposed to be? I see missions to transport narcotics, obtain stolen goods, etc.

Why would the Imperial Navy be involved in something like that? Are there missions later on to transport supplies, or hunt down rogue Federal navy units or something?

I do a bit of smuggling on the side...but I don't like the whole narcotics aspect, especially since the faction I am aligned with fights against such things....

They shouldn't all be illegal. I thought each mission is preset.

I do agree they make little sense in general. Delivering 6 tons of medicine to a planet in the same system should not earn you ranking in a space navy. (This is what I got for Baron).

Not any more it seems.

I saw four missions for Naval rank advancement last night, one to acquire 14 tons of stolen grain, one to smuggle 1 ton of Narcotics, the two others were simple courier missions, taking goods or packages to other stations but were unavailable to me due to needing Trailblazerr Exploration rank.

It actually makes sense that the navy would outsource any missions that they deem necessary but the higher powers may not approve off.

They get deniability and don't risk anyone they spent time and money training being arrested and talking, you are expendable so you get the crappy missions.

I had some smuggling missions and some ordinary data delivery missions for instance, I'm a duke now.
