Empire Rank to King - So What

I originally leveled up in Empire to get the cutter option (which by the time I had the rank of Duke, I no longer wanted it). So went on my merry way to make some more credits before 2.3 so I'd have more than enough to screw around and do other things.

In the process I ended up doing empire missions (not on purpose, but they were the ones I could do a lot more of) and eventually got to the final rank of King. It was the most underwhelming thing I can think of in the game. I forgot to even look at my "Incoming Message" when I got it as I logged off for the night and found it was gone today when I was back on).

So what is the point of getting to King? (or Admiral for the Federation)? Just a tiny little name in your Systems menu and that's it? I haven't seen any specific high paying missions for the top rank, I don't get and bonus that I can see in the Empire for being at the peak, no extra anything, not even a balloon with a smiley face on it saying "Congrats".

What the hell is the point anyways of getting to the top tier? Like I said mine just happened to be by circumstance of doing something else. Am I missing something here?

Well at least you don't need to worry about access to the eventual Panther Clipper. So there is that at least. Wish I could say Admiral will be worth something other than bragging rights. At least you Imps have something to look forward to!

Yeah if I wanted to trade which so far to date I owned a T-7 once just to try out trading for about 3 hours before giving up on it and going back to slave smuggling. But at least there is then something to get from the top tier rank, though nothing for Federation at all as you said.

Maybe it's because the Clipper seems to be more a trader anyways and you guys already have a cool Fed Corvette to play with. Wanna trade?

Nothing, no point, waste of time, 2.5 years in.

Not even a cosmetic King skin for your Cutter, or a rank decal, I mean how easy would that be for Frontier to do?

Your King rank isn't even shown to other players, nobody will ever know.

Ship names will of course be visible to other players, but that can be monetised so the publisher gets on that right away, while something irrelevant to the game like some reward or meaning for you achieving the highest possible military rank stays low priority.

Hell, yeah even a stupid g decal would have been something, lame, but something...

It's utterly pointless. Imagine the scene. Your commander meeting the Emperor.

'So Commander Khaos I hear that you're a king'
'Yes your Majesty, that's correct'
'King of where exactly?'
'Umm err I'm not really sure ma'am'
'And how many subjects do you have?'
'Umm I don't think I have any ma'am'
'Hmm and I hear that you're also an Admiral in the Federation'
'That's right ma'am'
'So where is your fleet?'
'Well my Cutter is currently at Farseer Inc waiting for parts to upgrade the FSD, my Corvette is docked somewhere near several civil wars and...'
'And how many people do you command?'
'Well ma'am there's Sam, Jo and Charlie who fly my fighters and sometimes Dave and Mike will come along to man the turrets or fly a fighter for me...'

For all the good it will do you, you could make up your own titles. For example I could declare myself God Emperor of all systems that I've fully scanned and got first discovered by tags on. Who's going to object, after all they are uninhabited at least by sentient life. Ok maybe I'm not certain of that. Perhaps there is sentient life on some of the ELWs I discovered, but they don't have spaceships and I do.

Wait. You don't get any concubines? No slaves? Not even a key to the executive washroom?

OMG what am I doing wrong. I mean Imperial rank should give you at least a couple of them slave concubines or what is the point.

Sigh, back to my boring life even ED cant fulfill my fantasy.

You forgot to mention the Emperor saying congrats, now stand over there with the other 23,000 Kings so you can all look at each other and feel all special and crap...

Yes I have wondered exactly this OP. I stopped rank grinding at both Rear Admiral and Duke having then removed the rank wall for both the Vette and Cutter.

But I've often wondered if other ships will arrive locked behind the higher ranks. Right now though I just can't face anymore ranking up unless it's incidental missions that I take up rarely with the missions boards being as exciting as drying paint.

i dont think will be on military ranks...

Been beaten to death.

The only titles that seem to mean anything are the ones from the Pilots Federation, with Elite basically giving you the key ( access ) to the exec washroom at Jameson Memorial and a lifetime card good for 10% off anything.

But, yeah, Empire/Fed rank is useless except for the ships, and some debate the usefulness of even that. I still get pulled over by police for 'inspection'. I would still get shot to death for blocking a mail-slot. And I've never seen a mission of vital importance for an Admiral/King.

I'm hoping that it'll open something up in the future. Rear Admiral and Duke were good to get for the ships. I'm still not King yet, but the Imperial missions are plentiful so progression is inevitable.

The game has some years left to it and I'm sure FD have something in the pipeline.

You seek and expect meaning where there's none to be found. The biggest secret in ED is that there really is no point at all to any of it. Nothing, zilch, nada, zero. All your efforts mean nothing, does nothing, and comes to absolutely nothing.

Except if it wasn't for one small, but yet very powerful word that nullifies all of the above: fun.

Its just something else to achieve in the game, my OCD saw something that needed completing so i have made King And Admiral and its done me no good was at least hoping that the stations would address me as your highness on approach :)
