So, I've been playing in Empire Space since launch, and I'm Allied with the majority of the factions surrounding Achenar, as well as the primary Empire faction. I got the first several navel missions pretty easily. And advanced to the rank of Knight, but once I got the mission to accept the permit to Achenar (a permit I already had), the missions stopped, and I haven't seen a single one on the bulletin boards for weeks. So now I'm stuck at Knight rank, and unable to get the other Empire permits.

Either your save is bugged or there is something else going wrong. I know its possible to get higher and without too much trouble.
Just an idea here, it might be that because you are allied with the empire factions around where you are, you are not increasing your rep any further with them, so it won't trigger the next mission.
Try flying to a station where you are not allied with the empire sub-faction and do a few missions, ideally help ones that give reputation only. See if that triggers it. Be sure to keep going back to the same sub-faction you are working on to check.

I've hit Baron with the Empire Group sub-faction, and I've been Allied with them since rank Knight, so I know for certain that rank missions are still posted regardless. (unless sub-factions provide varying levels of advancement from each other)

I've already tried that. I've spent the last few weeks looking all over the Empire for missions. haven't seen a single one.
I haven't seen one since hitting Baron, but I put that down to doing less missions in general (trading to boost credits at the moment) rather than a broken mechanic. It may be that FD tweaked the back end of how much you have to do for a faction (mission wise) before getting the next military rank?
Were you ever hostile with Empire? I'm stuck at Lieutenant (-2) with Feds for longest time while being Allied - the same way. Got Earl first though. I got first 2 fed ranks while being unfriendly or hostile.

I don't think so, the gap between Lord and Baron for me was 1 mission. I hit Lord, logged for the night, started again the next day, completed one transport missions and there it was when I returned.
RNG is definitely involved, that or its very unstable.
Nope. I pretty much flew to Empire Space on day one.
I hit Knight a few weeks ago, and didn't accept the Lord rank mission as I was out of playtime for that evening.
I haven't seen another Rank Progression mission offered since. I've assumed it was because I moved systems, but I'm beginning to wonder now. I've built up to Friendly rep, but still nada.

And did you go to your "summons" immediately? I pretty much did for Empire. Didn't for federation until I became allied. Never bothered to try do some misisons in permit systems though.
All in all I assume a bug here.
You'll start seeing them once you get closer to allied.
I accepted the summons and was immediately given the permit. When I actually arrived on Achenar, there wasn't any navel missions to turn in or take.
I was thinking this was probably the case. I'll keep plugging along.
Same as me. Must be over 2 weeks since I saw a mission. I'm allied with Empire.

Competent: I got summons and permit and (insert your problems here)
AFAIK You don't have to go to the system at all to progress your ranks or get further permits, at least at least until 3 highest ranks. The permit are somewhat independent of the rank progression, but the last 3 ranks will probably need to be done in permit systems. I got Federation ranks and permits by never going to systems that I got "invited to" (up to Lieutenant). I may have to go there to get my last few ranks. Also, I'm an Earl (top ranking so far) with Empire and I never got offered Achenar permit.
I'm not disagreeing with you, but the fact that you got friendly after a single mission is normal. It only means that you are very close to friendly faction standing. Say your faction standing is 0.95 and your completed mission gave you total minor faction 0.06 rep, so total minor faction rep 0.95 + 0.06 = 1.01 = Friendly.
Now if you got the actual friendly rep with the minor faction (indicated when turning in a mission), I'd be surprised.
Exactly the same for me, any update on that or new ideas from people stuck at that rank? Or is it a bug because i don't accepted the naval mission that i see one time after hit the knight rank?
