Empire vs Federation vs Alliance vs (insert faction here)

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
The Empire of course. They have the most interesting lore imho, and their ships look cool. :)

Federation is just corporate America projected to its logical extreme into the future. The Alliance's sole defining characteristic is that they don't like the original two superpowers.

The Empire, by contrast, has an interesting backstory with the Duval family, exodus, betrayal, etc. They have the most flavor of all.

The Alliance, of course! The only place with true self-determination, mutual defense among members, and slavery is illegal, but tobacco and onionhead is cool.

And we got Lavian Brandy and Perez Beer!

Alliance

Started out as a Fed because I like Core Dynamics ships, gradually leaned more towards the Empire as time passed by.

Fed only for the Corvette, but will usually work w/ democratic factions in all areas.

Won't have anything to do w/ slaves.

Allied/friendly w/ the three.

You could say I am apolitical, I really don't care. Currently allied with all three (always fluctuating between 99% and 100%) probably because I use to take whatever mission take my fancy, rarely register which major faction they are for. However, now that I have set a long term goal of getting a Clipper, I am looking more at missions from the Empire. But knowing my fickle mind I will probably change that goal next week :D

I support the Federation. I support the Empire. I support the Alliance. Not necessarily in that order, mind you, that's just the order I encountered them. I am Friendly with all three.

Rather, it's the Independents I oppose. Especially anarchists and communists. With a couple of Lore-based exceptions (eg. Sirius Corp), I refuse to support them.

I would prefer the Superpowers start acting like genuine superpowers: stop squabbling amongst themselves, get out there and start annexing those Indie systems. I will happily support any efforts by any of the superpowers to do this. Once the whole galaxy is Red, Blue and Green and all the Yellows have all been extirpated, then the superpowers can have a knock-down, winner-take-all galactic war for supremacy. But until then, I refuse to take part in any Superpower vs Superpower conflicts.

I support a little NPC independent minor faction democracy specifically, as well as multiple other Independent democracies, confederacy, cooperatives etc. in the surrounding area and in general Independent factions who do not allow slavery.

Why? Because there is enough space in the galaxy to allow people to live free in the way they want. Large governments just means a disconnect from the people, failure to follow their ideals by those governments and egos with good PR running the show rather than the right people.

Yes I include the Alliance in that when I see all the mini Alliance PMF factions which contrary to the claims of their leader seem quite content to build an empire of system control at the expense of native democracies etc.

I'll even support independent anarchy, feudal, corporate and dictatorships over the major powers unless the local faction is one which purports to work for and represent the will of the people. I'll give the benefit of the doubt to Fed/Imp/Alliance democracies etc. that it is the will of the people, however much I feel they are wrong, to be part of the major faction and respect that choice.

My biggest disappointment is the Alliance in all this as they (at least at PMF level) seem quite happy to impose their system on others through force of arms even though their government claims otherwise.

Just corporate America. I've seen it all now America bashing on the ED forums. I wish I had .01% of the money the USA has handed out to help the less fortunate of this world. That said I will most likely join the Alliance if they ever decide to put that Thargoid tech out for public use.

Alliance, because in the playerbase it's synonymous to efficiency, merit and effort to succeed without the coercion of making credits or big ships. (for now, woo alliance ships!)

Also, let's face it. Alliance has the best galaxy map colour.

I prefer the blue of the Empire and the violet hues of some economy types. Nothing to do with what factions I support. Purely based on what colors I like.

Wouldn't it be great if we could change the colors used on the GalMap? That way we could select a nice color for inhabited system and don't have to overthrow governments to get the desired color ;)
