Horizons Enable / Disable auto forward view for Track IR users: Still NOT IMPLEMENTED

[Enable / Disable] option for the 'auto forward view' problem for Track IR users: Still NOT IMPLEMENTED

Why is the Track-IR software option overridden by 'Elite Dangerous' and still doesn't have this option so we can FREEZE our head view to study a cockpit side panel , for any length of time, in game. Joystick buttons are limited on normal non-hotas joysticks.

The mouse view head looking feature HAS the option to disable the 'auto recentre view. PLEASE lets finally have it for Track-ir users

Yes there was a bodge workaround which DOES work........

and there are people 2 years later still asking for this to work as it always was intended. which prompted me to post this REQUEST.

Edit#1: By the way the 2nd link thread is locked, why? so I could not reply directly to his question with a solution.
So I post this again for trackIR users.

Track-ir users: what say you?

I say I've been using TrackIR with Elite for a couple years now and I would much rather have them work on more important things. Just hold your head still silly! I have no issues, but I disabled the auto pop-up for when you look at the menus. I use a stick button to activate them, and I have no problems.

Personally I don't see the point of implementing that. I have switched off the automatic display of panels and bound them to keys on my HOTAS and I just look and... well, keep my head still for as long as I need.

Out of curiosity, OP, can you describe a scenario where you need to focus entirely on one of the side panel for a long period of time, to the point where it becomes uncomfortable when keeping your head turned to one side?

Elite dangerous borks a standard Track-IR feature (by auto recentering ) when requested not to by the user. I've been using Trackir since version 1 and elite dangerous breaks the funtionality of a standard feature. It's ok for mouse headusers tho!

to answer your question
1) I look at side panel and want want to freeze the view to look at my stats , pages and pages of them stats.
2) I look at an object in my side view and want to keep it solid and still in the view, whilst my ship is pointing in another direction.
3) I wear glasses. Text and objects distort when my head is turned sideways and my eyes are trying to focus on the screen in front of me, for extended periods.
4) I look at the text/chat panel and want to freeze it so I can look down at the keyboard to see the keys I type with, and learning forward to do so.

You see just with one working Trackir Button means I don't need to WASTE 4 keys for separate panel views!

Thanks, for the advice , but I did write that there is a workaround unfortunately it is complicated for any novice trackir user.
I have fixed my thread links above so you can see them know , if you are interested.

To be fair I never even knew such a feature existed. Fair enough, if you need it then. I also use Track IR, but I don't have a problem with any of the scenarios you've described, I just set my curves to be comfortable - aka I only turn my head a little, and the camera in game turns a lot more. This way I can still look comfortably at the screen, even when looking to the sides.

I'll see if I can export my settings, maybe you'll find them useful.

No need to send profiles. I've been using trackir's from the day we old flight simmers converted it from a disabled persons tool to a gaming tool. My profiles are perfect 'for me'. Thanks for the thought. It's kind of you.

Have you never tried reading something (ie. materials descriptions perhaps) in the panels and looked to pick up your drink and lost the panel ;)

Navigating to the side panels with the UI focus navigation overrides TrackIR and has done so for some time, so that's better than it used to be way back in the really bad time.

Still, I'd really REALLY like in-game functionality to lock the view forward. Yes, you can use a hotkey to suspend TrackIR and the game will centre the view after several seconds, but it could be better (instant). There's a "headlook" binding, would be grand if that did anything.

No, because I have them configured to permanently open with a key press. I use a dedicated "shift" key on my HOTAS + a hat switch (up, left, down, right - for the respective panels), so the multiple key bindings are not a problem for me.

Map F9 button to your HOTAS/VoiceAttack in toggle or hold mode. That will freeze the view.
F9 is the default key for TrackIR pause. I always use f11 to Pause and F12 to Centre x,y cordinates to 0 (ie recentre my new head position)
I chose these because they interfeere with less default game controls.

I did quickly try F9 , just now in case it was an anomaly I'd over looked trying and it didn't work. Thanks for offering your help. The solution is the workaround using a trackir zero profile and flipping to it. Elite dangerous at least doesn't override that feature

My joystick is not hotas and I have to manage my button config very carefully, like most people.

I'm finding it very difficult to get a steady image of the side panels. Even if I keep me head tilted to the left or right and hit pause on the track ir to keep screen steady it still goes back to center.even though I'm am not looking straight ahead. I do not understand the reason for this. Please take a look. Thanks.
