I've been reviewing historic Community Goals, and I've noticed a stark discrepancy with regards to CGs requesting data. Basically, they seem to get dominated by a much smaller subset of players; the ones willing to sit in Jameson for hours and then convert that data into CG data at materials traders, often at the site in question.
This is silly from a lore perspective, but also kinda breaks the purpose of the CG as well.
From a lore perspective, they're usually about collecting some sort of intelligence scattered in the data collected in the wild. If they could just buy it all from a dude in an office three doors down, they'd hardly need to do that, would they?
From a gameplay perspective, it means the only players who win, and the side that wins, is determined by which players are most willing to scan the Jameson Site over and over and over and over.
Which is...well, I won't complain about the Jameson Site, because I get that some people want that sort of thing. But it does essentially cripple anyone not willing to grind like that.
It would be neat if future CGs prohibited trading for data(it just wouldn't count if it had been traded), and asked for data that could only be acquired in other ways. Wake Data, Shield Scans...maybe Thargoid data, too? Stuff like that. That way players are encouraged to actually play the game, not just sit there and scan the same pylons over and over.
