I am so stoked today. Over a year ago I found a nice little system with 2 earth-like worlds side by side. I bookmarked it because I knew that when I can land on earth like worlds I want to return. Then tragedy struck and I lost my ship and weeks upon weeks of exploration data. I tried to get back to that system 4-5 more times over the last year and the losses each time were very discouraging.. That system drove me from the game a couple times
. I started calling it the Cursed Star.
Last night I finally reached the system, scanned everything from the ELWs to the Water World around the next star to the asteroids around the 4th. I was happy, but a little anxious. I was still nearly 20k ly from Home and the neutron stars had done a number on my FSD, and here I am without an AMFU. I check the map, Colonia is just short of 10k ly away so I plot a route and call it a night. Today I worked my way to Colonia, powering off and on my FSD dozens of times to get another jump out of it despite integrity hitting 31%. I made it. I sold my data, a light 24m because I went almost directly to the system with very little looking around on the way... but a year after the discovery it finally has my name emblazoned on it.
And now here I am.. sitting on Jaques station (a first for me) still feeling the exploring bug due to so many cool systems I passed, high gravity ringed landable worlds, Icy pebbles swirled with color...
And I’m deciding to call it a day. It was such a good trip, and so vindicating, that I want to preserve it by stopping while I’m ahead. I even considered taking the sidewinder express back to the bubble and shipping my Asp, or even just my FSD and thrusters, back on their own... but I think instead I’ll fly back... avoiding the neutron highway for the safety of my drive
Just wanted to share, I’ve had such terrible luck with exploring that hitting this goal, conquering the Cursed Star, really lifted my spirits.
See you in the black Cmdrs.
