Engine/Lighting upgrade for consoles?

While the Odyssey content (and all ongoing development) for consoles has been halted, has there been any word as to whether or not the lighting/engine upgrade will be coming, or are we stuck with the legacy Horizons system? Not that it's worse, per se, but Horizons was supposed to get those upgrades at some point.

Why they would want to add any new features to the consoles version ?
They are done with it, aside of security and critical updates as it reads in their statement.

Yes, consoles are stuck with the Horizons graphics because consoles lack the performance needed to run the new Odyssey graphics. That's the problem. That's why they stopped development for consoles.

Exactly.

As a console and PC owner I asked FD sometime ago about my PC specs, to assess if it was necessary for me to upgrade my Gcard; buy a new rig entirely, or simply wait it out for console.

Presently my PC runs many if not all console relevant games, but at a higher resolution / performance etc, it is a 10 year old dinosaur. Yet it is primarily 1 graphic card generation outside the EDO specs.

FD confirmed that to me; stating that EDO is a ‘graphically intensive’ game and needs more memory to run it.

Graphically intensive does not mean ‘better graphics’ or ‘better coding’; it simply means you need more RAM to run it…

From that point on I knew FD had hit their optimisation level, if my PC couldn’t play it, I doubted my console could either.

It still irks me because FD are going to bin the EDH code for PC, meaning I will be forced to run the EDO code, which probably will mean I wont be able to play unless I do upgrade my PC.

So there does exist 2 audiences who will be affected by EDO, Console and older gen PC owners.

Sure I can upgrade; but like those considering migration it would essentially mean buying a new PC… because EDO is just terribly built, and you need that extra RAM just to run it, not to bask in its glory (?).

Personally as a backer and lifetime pass holder, from what I’ve seen and heard of EDO I won’t be rushing to migrate, I’ll wait it out, wait for my rig to die, then re-assess because I get so much more out of my console than I do of my PC…; EDO on its own doesn’t warrant a new PC for me, I have other priorities…

For those on Console I hope FD honour Cmdr profile transfer… but I doubt that too.

Well, as there’s no improvements to the console game coming on PlayStation, playing something that looks as bad as it does running at 1080p on Console, I took the very hard decision to:

Are you mad? :D

Horizons is WAY BETTER than Odyssey for lighting... Odyssey engine is a DOWNGRADE.

Nope.

Horizons client was supposed to be phased out and everything moved to Odyssey client after Odyssey's launch on consoles
Since Odyssey will not make it to consoles, all there is for consoles is the good old Horizons client - for as long Consoles will have Elite or FDev change plans again.
