Engine Optimal Mass regarding Thruster Upgrade, pls help :-)

Hey Guys,

I wanna upgrade my Viper and really cant get a clear answer for the
optimal mass Thing ;-)
-

So clear is : lighter is more agile, heavier is slower regarding turning and Speed and boost.
Whats unclear : I can buy better thrusters...
1.) Option : 2,5 Ton Class A 2
2.) Option : 8 Ton Class B 3 is the more expensive one
-

So my question : why is it more expensive if Option one is better ?
And why do i get red signs regarding optimal mass with Option one and blue ones with Option 2 ?
-

I undestand the optimal mass is how the ship is intended, but if i want the fastest possible Viper ( regarding turning )
do i have to buy the thrusters regarding optimal mass or the lightest with best class ?
-

AND last but not least question :
The last Option, twice as expensive as the first 2
is weighting 5 tons, Class A 3. Is it anyway the best and fastest one ?
Or will the ship be even slower if I have bad luck... ?
-

THANK YOU SO MUCH for every clarification... I googled 15 minutes and
found many answers but no one seemed to know that question for sure.

Kind regards from Austria :)

Okay so option 1 is not optimal for you. although it's an "A" rating thruster, its a smaller class than your Viper normally holds. It will hurt you in the long run. The B3 or A3 is the better way to go. One thing you want to check on and make sure of is that your current mass, represented in the box on the right (it would look something like 110/160, the left number being your current mass and the right being your total allowed mass) does not exceed the thrusters optimal mass listed, otherwise you'll get a slower, less responsive flight model. So as long as your current mass is below the optimal mass for your thruster, you're fine. One last thing to note for deciding between a B3 or an A3, is that B rating parts are heavy as all heck. So even though you might be below optimal mass for flying, it might kill your jump range, if that matters to you.

Hope this helps, understanding all the numbers at first can get a little confusing.

I am also interested in the answer to these questions, though I haven't spent much time trying to understand it yet. Basically is a more powerful but heavier thruster better even if I don't need it (due to having a light-weight ship), or does the power go to waste and it's just worse because I don't need it?

Also adding that if the numbers go red, it means it's worse than your current part. Blue means it's better.

Hey thanks for the answer, that is a first step in understanding the numbers hehe.
I thought the class ABC is the more important Thing, so thats incorrect ? A B3 is
better than a A1 ?

Regarding blue and red, is it always right ? Can I trust if it is blue it is always better ?
Sometimes I am not quite sure ;-)

Here is for Saxy a quite interesting thread :

Also helped me a lot
Thanks and good flight

From what i have been able to grab form bits and pieces you have grades A- G.
A is best of the grades. (Specifically) So A1 should be better than a B1 in most ways, such as weight, power draw etc.

I like to think of this as the functional Build Qaulity of the equipment.

Then you have number LEVEL 1-5.
5 is the best.

I think of this as the Pure Power of the item. i.e damage/thrust/shield energy etc etc.

So in your situation you have a better GRADE item (A-1) but the lower GRADE item is a higher LEVEL (B-3)
(Your choice is a beefy Harley that goes faster top end or a lightwieght superbike, without quite so much 'Oooomph')

GRADE A over GRADE B is better Weight, (but could just as well have been something else such as Power draw).
But LEVEL 3 over LEVEL 1 are a HUGE difference...

Which is why it looks so odd and the cost is so much higher for the B3

Hope that helps you out.
