Engineer for fuel tanks

I think we need an engineer for fuel tanks I've just bought a FDL and the jump distances are very poor I've engineered the FSD getting 20 ish but fuel is an issue getting this thing from a to b is nightmare you have 3 jumps in the tank I even have fuel scoops but a few occasions I've nearly ended up dry considering its ment to be a bounty hunter ship all anyone would have to do is head off to nearest set of brown dwarves and you could hide from it pls frontier can you make the tank bigger or give us an engineer that will do it for us

The FDL has had a lot of changes over the years.
First it was given a bigger power plant, and then epic cooling abilities.
Then the cooling got nerfed.

Personally, I think the power plant should be reduced back to original, now we have engineering, and it's heat efficiency increased a small amount.

Then, give it a larger fuel tank, and a larger FSD, if possible.

This would then actually slot it in to the bounty hunter role, by being able to actually chase targets for more than 3 jumps.

By my calculations (using coriolis. Lol)
If the FDL was given a Class 5 power plant (-1), and class 5 FSD (+1), and a Class 4 fuel tank.
A fairly full battle setup could still only jump 25~ly without engineering. Or 37.5~ly with a 50% roll.

But it would have to have a heavily engineered power plant to support all the modules, shield boosters, etc. Which means it's heat efficiency would tank.

This FDL, using just stats to artificially raise the jump range to a 5A FSD, can do 23ly, or 34.5~ly, in a good battle setup.
It's still not going to catch any engineered explorers, but it'll be able to keep up with most other ships.
It doesn't take in to account the added fuel from a 4C 16t tank though.

My Fer-de-Lance with some mild engineering anyone can do and a 4C fuel tank easily gets me where I want to go. Zero cargo but I wasn't looking to scoop low paing cargo cannisters. It is all about pure combat and nothing else. Your version may be different. I have a combat Python if I need to scoop something.

I'd say don't tinker with ship layouts unless unavoidable. Especially since Engineers.
I'm sure many cmdrs put a lot of effort into engi-tailoring and finetuning their ships.
Measures like downgrading the PP would mean they'd have to start all over again...
Plus, the FDL already got nerfed indirectly when most other combat ships received their military slots.
Imho it's fine as it is, even the jump range, although admittedly a bigger fuel tank wouldn't hurt...
