Engineer unlock - Conbat bonds for feds - where and how?

Avoided CZs for my pilot career so far, just BH and RES for my bounty kill thrills. But for one of engineer unlocks, requires 50 combat bonds for feds.

So thought I'd just go park at some CZ in a federal system, enter - pick a side, kill ships, earn bonds, turn in bonds. Easy.

Guess not so easy as not a single bond I earned (~20) qualified for the engineer unlock. Apparently the bonds I got were not 'federal' bonds.

Is there some easier/better way to find a proper system with proper CZ that will allow getting federal combat bonds vs non-federal bonds?

From the sound of the wording you need to make sure the side you are choosing is a federation faction and not independent or imperial. Not just a fed system but faction alignment is what you need to know

war in lhs 3447 right now helping feds keep the system. high war zone 18 ly from big station.

That's just the invitation requirement. There is no progress bar for that. The unlock requirement is $1M in combat bonds donated to him at his base - that'll move the progress bar.

It's for Juri Ishmak - and yea I'm on the steep before actual unlock of 1M in bonds. Since I've never done CZs, didn't have 50 bonds done and counter shows 0/50.

are you saying this 0/60 doesn't show progress until you have all 50?

Thanks, will double check and see of faction was aligned with fed.

For the one that requires 1M in bonds I did the combat in Delkar which is an independent system where both opposing factions were intependent. For the engineer that requires 10M I did it in an anarchy system where both factions were some pirates like "bros form X" and "gangbangers of Y". Just saying that any combat bonds will do.

Have to say that I still really get this yet. Spent an hour yesterday in a CZ, killed a bunch of ships and was given some rewards. Gave them in at Sol, 4 jumps away from the system in question and my count is still a 0/50. Clearly I'm missing something. Do I need to give them in locally in the system in question, or wait until I have 1 million and give to Juri?

Again, FD just can't write a description that's factually accurate.
