Engineers Engineer visits again and again?

Hello commanders

Title says most of the story really. I took the python to Elvira, unlocked FSD range and G5, pinned it and went back to Jameson Memeorial rubbing hands and thinking I will get to engineer all my other FSD's.
To my surprise the blueprint was not pinned anymore, jumped in the DB Explorer and I found out that I need to start from scratch with materials to upgrade this one also....
Is this how it's supposed to be? Take every ship to the engineer to upgraded it onsite if its a different class FSD?
Sound awfully boring mechanic if you ask me.

I had the same experience. I think it erases your pinned blueprints every time you swap ships.

If this is the case, I agree - not very optimal.

Ps. Recently there was a patch - could it possibly be this, that erased our blueprints?

I am now back at Elvira's with the DB Explorer and I had to unlock everything all over again because it's a different class fsd maybe?
I dread having to jump all those jumps with the FDL, you would think that in the space travel era she could maybe give me the blueprints lol
I don't mind having to do a bit of work for something but having to take every ship with a different fsd to her sound bad, time wasting.
I will pin the blueprint again also, maybe it sticks this time :)

I pay to have some of my other ships shipped to the nearest shipyard while engineering my current ship, gathering mats, running missions etc.

Thanks for the replies guys, I guess it is what it is, just like collecting the parts for the guardian stuff, rinse and repeat.
Devs could make it better though, with a bit of effort.

Once you have achieved G5 on any given blueprint with an engineer and pin it, you should be able to fully engineered any applicable module remotely (other than experimental effects, which can only be done at engineer).

It doesn't matter what ship, what size or grade module. Remote engineering should be showing you an option for FSD if you have it pinned.

If you look at engineers in your right panel I believe there should be a way to view your pinned blueprint with Elvira as well.

If your progress with Elvira is not being retained, and if your blueprint is not staying pinned, you should open a ticket imo.

Are you just making this up?

There is no difference in the modification, you always have to modify a module through all the grades. Did you expect that if you had a G5 mod pinned that you could just immediately stick G5 on any other module without having to modify it through the intervening grades?

No. An FSD is an FSD. Once you have unlocked the engineer to the required grade / level, you can engineer any class of that module up to the level you have unlocked.

I have heard of blueprints becoming unpinned, although I have to say I don't think it's happened to me. But once you do have one pinned, you can upgrade all your modules from the comfort of the remote workshop, only traveling to an engineer for special effects.

As Para Handy points out, though, you will need to do each module from level one and on up, you cannot start to engineer a module from a high level, no matter your level of access. That said, once your rep with an engineer is good enough, the lower level mods should only take a few 'rolls' each to complete. You can usually do levels 1 to 4 in the same number of 'rolls' as it takes to complete a level 5 mod.

Engineering is really very user friendly now...

I just checked back to re-read this after wondering the same, as nothing else is making sense.

I've heard of pinned prints dropping, but never of progress with an engineer being lost.

I don't know about the rest, but all my pinned prints also dropped last week. I had OC MC, Dirty Drives and FSD's all pinned with the intention on using them on several ships in my home base instead of transporting them to each engineer.

A while back there was a spate of people losing pinned blue prints, the work around consensus at the time was to pin the blue; print log out to menu and back in again; check pinned status if OK continue about business if not rinse and repeat. I previously experienced the issue and since using this verification method have not had any problems.

Interesting Fact: There's a used for pinned blueprint icon that appears next to the material in the inventory list.

Very nice engineering write up here

I actually expected that mate, and not making it up. Playing since December though, so you could be a bit more forgiving than bitter. And I haven't said anywhere I lost progress.
The guy who said that I can move ship around closer to the engineers could've made fun of a noob also when he realised I didn't knew that, but he decided to be nice and just dropped me the hint, thanks.

No need to transfer the ships but just the FSDs you want to be engineered as long as your ship at the engineer base can fit them, btw :)

Slightly off topic but,

I ran into an interesting issue with this.

In Colonia I flew a T9 transport to Mel Brandon

Sequence of events:
  • Using the T9 I temporarily equipped and engineered 6A thrusters destined for a Python.
  • I ran out of mats for the engineering.
  • I re-equipped the T9, flew away, then returned with the mats.
  • It would not allow me to equip the semi-engineered 6A thruster on the T9.
  • I xfered a new non-engineered 6A thruster and tried it. I could equip it

The T9 would equip non-engineered thrusters and allow me to engineer them, but would not allow me to equip semi-engineered thrusters.

I ended up purchasing a temp Python so I could complete the last couple engineering steps. Sold off the Python. The thrusters were for a ship in the bubble.
I did not submit a ticket, probably should have.

What engineering did you do on those thrusters?
