Solved. Engineered modules have a red icon beside them in the modules tab.

Under the modules tab some of my engineered stuff have a red engineered icon beside them, others are the normal colour.
My power usage with hardpoints deployed is 96%.
Everything seems to be working.
so what does the red icon mean?
Nothing good I'll wager!
reloaded the game and all is back to normal.

ah, lingering effects of solar eclipse, affecting your gameplay with possible future alpha/beta content/feature. Good thing you reloaded game, who knows what might have happened if lawyers found out you where accessing future content/features.

Modules with no power go red and the Engineer icon turns red.
When they get power again and go orange FDev forgot to update the Engineer icon so it stays red.

Basically: graphics bug

No I've noticed this as well, it's just the engineer icon that goes red sometimes.

It indicates you have engineered the module too much.
