Engineering a class five shield for the T9

Since it looks like secondaries are going away, I’ve decided to get myself one uber class five shield for my T9.

Am I doing this right?

I collected 150 T of phosphorus and went out to Lei Cheung.
I’m just rolling the basic G1 reinforced but have not managed to get me re than +7% in nearly a hundred rolls.

Is there another more efficient mod with a higher probability of getting the desired secondary or an I just having bad luck?

One guy got two +9% OM rolls in 15.

Try thermal resistant. This increases the weakest stat for the shield. Ideally consider grade 3 as a good middle ground to shoot for (grade 5 is obviously ideal but I don't know what your commitment level to this is). Also, given Type-9 gets more cargo space - really honestly consider a class 6 shield. I know; it's 32 tons sacrificed. But which is more useful; an extra 32t, or far better survival odds? Up to you. But with the extra class 8 coming, it's a bit silly to prioritise 32t over a much stronger shield.

Also seriously consider at least grade 1 resistance for the boosters you have fitted (please tell me you have fitted at least 2) as this will increase the resistance; which acts like a damage debuff. Otherwise; good luck. Type-9 getting more space is great; but I think a bunch of people will be upset if they ride around with a grade 5 shield gen and get jumped by something.

Type-9 can't run. And a lot of people have asked for more cargo space, but have never flown one. So there's going to be some learning going on. Worth remembering. :)

Another option is to use a c5 prismatic shield, that's what I did for my trade cutter.

Yep; that works. It's counter intuitive, but I actually run bi-weaves on type-9. Grade 5 thermal resist, resist on boosters and the thing will pop back up even if I am chain interdicted. It spends the majority of its time at 100% and comes back up at 50%. I know a few people run Prismatics on trading scows now, but I still reckon bi-weaves are a good alternative; fast reform with a ton of resist.
