Okay, I admit, I got into this Engineering job a little late, but now that I'm finally trying it, I thought I understood what to do. However, when I made my way to Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn, he's asking for 100k bounties...... huh? What does engineering have to do with bounty hunting? Is he asking for 100k creds or 100k kills? I could get the creds, but it just doesn't make sense to me.
Please enlighten me.
Well if you have a look at all the requirements for unlocking engineers, they all have a common theme, to get you to try out most aspects of things todo in Elite....
Take Professor Palin, Must travel 5000 LY away from your starting point! This is very much Exploration, going 5000 LY takes some commitment, but is not an absurd amount, a couple of hours if actually trying to explore stuff along the way....
Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn will have you try out pirate hunting...
Colonel Bris Dekker, is about trying out combat in Conflict Zone, as you have to turn in War bonds here!
Selene Jean, Mining, 500 tons fun ore to mine and refine. She is all about to get you to try out mining.
The Dweller, sell "stolen" gods in several black markets!
Lei Cheung, trade in many different systems,
Didi Watermann, is yet another engineer that is hammering in the gameplay of what trading is all about, to fly back and forth to deliver cargo, all those rare material deliveries is to mimick the cargo hauling stuff, but since it is rares gods, you do not need a specific trader ship, as you can easily in most ships fit a suitable cargo bay for these kind of deliveries.
Bill Turner, Liz Ryder and Marco Qwent, these get you to learn about how to gain reputation with different factions in game.
Just to name a few of the main parts of stuff you get to try out...
They could be done better, but overall they are doing a pretty descent job on introducing you to different parts of Elite. Sadly the help available in game about this sucks big time. I do get what they tried todo here, and they set the goal just over the conform zone threshold for many player, that they have to endure some of these activities to much. Overall I do think they got a descent balance, and I did most of these when some of the requirements where much higher than they are now". i had one huge surprise, I actually liked mining... so that is what I use my Beluga for... mining.
So once you understand what all those whacky stupid, nonsense requirements come from, it is easier to get why they are there. and luckily, if you do not fancy mining, once you are done with the engineers that has mining related requirements for getting invite/unlocking, then you do not have to that again... unless you chooses todo so.
And others have already answered that it is bounty vouchers you need to collect and turn them in there...
