Engineering faff

This engineering lark is nothing but a faff man......its bad enough having to grind for a ton of near on impossible to find mats and fart about unlocking engineers but what gets me is the faffing about with the engineers once unlocked...... reputation,levels,yet more levels hidden behind more levels.....

eg Elvira Martuuk.....i had to buy 5 FSDS and three thrusters just to unlock level 5 then sell them again a waste of mats and creds....only then to find out i still cannot unlock grade 6 shield generators its says some faff about requiring all previous levels .......are you kidding me man....

so i have to buy 5 separate classes of shield gens 1,2,3,4,5 install each one individually and waste a ton of mats to upgrade them,travelling to Khun every time as the blueprint pinning for her dosen't seem to work, then sell them just to unlock the grade 6 i need................ it's wayyyy too complicated its like someone has went out of their way to make this ridiculously difficult and annoying...........or am i missing something here guys ?

You don't rank up for each size of module!

You can rank up to G5 for any individual blueprint at a given engineer on any module size and all blueprints will be unlocked up to that rank and will work on any module size.

I read the OP thinking he was talking about flight-assist off the entire time (and was duly confused), but I suspect "faff" means something clever in British English?

Consult the useful in-game docu ... oh.

No clue why you're buying different classes of generator. Same blueprint works for all sizes.

As for repping up with the engineer, you can just keep upgrading the same thing over and over. You don't need to schlep back and forth with new stuff.

I mean, yes, it's already a massive ballache, but you just made it 10 times worse for yourself.

Yes thats what i thought and how it worked on all my other engineers i'm already level 5 with Martuuk but when i try to upgrade a 6c shield gen its say you need to complete all lower levels first ?

lol lol "faff" to tinker unproductively with menial tasks lol its a British thing indeed.... interchangable with fart,fiddle,footer,fu*k,pi*s,with about usually at the end lol

Ino i've already reached level 5 with this silly woman having upgraded two previous ships with this new ship every module says the same crap about having a lower module unlocked first ??????? the multiple purchase were only at the beginning to unlock level 5 is quicker than selling nav data

Every shield you buy has to start at level 1 engineering.
But you don't have to engineer class 1 shields to engineer class a 7 shield.
martuuk has 5 different things she can engineer.
You're at level 5 for your drives I assume.
That level 5 doesn't carry over to the 3 other types of modules she can engineer.
If you go see her in a new ship with unengineered drives, you'll start at level 1 again (for the new ship), but get to level 5 much faster than your 1st ship.

i did two class 4s already on previous ships but when i try to do my class 6c it keeps saying i need all previous levels

Something is wrong here.
To set g5 upgrade you need to install g1, g2, g3, g4 on the module, this is obvious.
I have not seen any correlations related to module's class. I.e. if I can install g5 on class 1 module, then I can install same on class 2 module. And even on class 3 module. Nothing to unlock here.
Remote upgrades gives no reputation from the engineer (there is a red warning in the game about it). So if you need the reputation - visit the engineer. To get dirty drive g5 I've installed g5 clean drives on my DBX, so if this is a waste of mats or not is up to you.

yes, for each new module you have to work up through the grades all over again. Still better than the old system, IMO.

That is correct, because each shield is it's own unique piece.
But you could have started engineering your 6c shield from the beginning.
