Newcomer / Intro Engineering fsd for faster boot time

I have just engineered my fsd to a level 5 fast boot sequence, but it is quite a disappointment...

I expected to highwake in no time, but it seems nothing has changed. From when you hear "frameshift drive charging" to the actual countdown it still take 10 seconds. Wasn't it supposed to go down to 2 or three?

Short answer no!

Boot time is the time your FSD takes from being powered off to operational, this is what you have reduced.

Time to charge is the time from pressing your FSD button until you jump, this can't be engineered.

Decreasing the boot time is useful if you have a power limited ship and arrange priorities so that the FSD is switched off when you deploy the turrets.

As aJ says, that's not what it does. Personally, I think the description could be reworded for accuracy.

"Faster time to boot up" doesn't seem like an accurate description? How would you describe booting up better? :D

Until you know the difference it's quite easy to confuse the concept of the time taken for a module to become useable, after being switched off, with the time taken to become useable by being charged up when it's already switched on.

The technical description of 'boot' is to power-up an off-line system making it available for use.
As the FSD can't be used until it's charged you could argue that the charge up period is also a 'boot'.

Feel free to argue amongst yourselves.
I'm still researching recipes for frozen turkey.

Everyone did that. Because people getting access to the upgrade before they've got the point how the power managment works and why do you need to disable modules manually.
And there's no accurate words to explain the thing you do not aware about, especially if you already have own incorrect explanation which is quite good for you.

The computer clearly says "Friendship Drive Charging", not "Friendship Drive Booting". The blueprint would clearly say Fast Charge Sequence if it did what most people mistake it for. It's just a beautiful case of people seeing what they want instead of what is there.

I had hoped that I would be able to highwake sooner, since I got my python destroyed by two [beeeeeep] cmdr hungry for my blood!

Bing able to restart your FSD faster can still mean you can high-wake out of the dodge faster. :)
But yeah, it is one of the, let's say, less essential mods.

To be completely honest, most modules have only one mod that is actually useful. It usually the one that makes the module's main purpose better. Simple really. Range for FSD, power output for PP, etc.
Getting into the nuances of others really requires you to know what you're after.
 
Faster boot sequence has only two purposes: faster reboot for power management reasons as stated above, and also faster reboot when hit by FSD reboot munitions. So it could be useful on a combat ship, but it's generally less useful than almost any other FSD modification.
 
I fell for it too. I know about power mgt. but I fell for the terminology. Faster charge makes sense, faster BOOT is about 1/10th as useful and does not. It's not a confirmation bias induced delusion, it's a reasonable assumption.

You can engineer some weapons for a special effect that disables/shuts down the FSD stopping your target/victim from escaping.
 
This is intetesting. Could give an edge in some mission to recover hostages.

Howevet, I think I'll reconsider.

I was interdicted again, and I was able to actually jump again before the enemy even locked on me.

It was Npc, but still...
