Engineering imbalance.

Two main problem areas.

First, the engineering is too set and well documented. Engineers need to be generated for the players. They need to appear for different reasons, have varying skills and degrees of talent. They could even loose interest in you for varying reasons. This would make the game far more immersive that the current short quest for the ultimate build.

Second, if the engineers are so special, why is it that every ship dealer can give you a ship with all these super elite builds? All re-buys should need to be taken to the various engineers for them to work their not quite predictable magic. Following this thought some more. It would also be nice to have an alternative to materials spamming. This is a bit of realism that would make a lot of people settle down.

I think your idea would cause quite the opposite. While I agree there is a lack of realism in that modifications are replicated after ship destruction, it's just another run of the hill game design conundrum of realism vs enjoyment. I think you'd struggle to find players who want their hard-earned rolls to disappear every time their ship is destroyed, it would just make the game incredibly obnoxious.

As for variance in the engineer's story/interaction. A lot more work from FDev to impliment, would cause frustration and disappointment in the community, and would ultimately only be appreciated by a select few IMO.

One problem is Marco Qwent. If I have understood it right, I can have those Modular Terminals only via mission rewards. I have read that someone got those 25 terminals only 20 minute playing. I'm running now 5th day and I haven't seen even one yet.

Modular Terminals only appear as a reward when you stop looking.

Go run random missions for another reason. You'll soon be swimming in MTs. Lol

Admittedly, MTs need another avenue of acquisition. Be it salvage, or piracy. Or both.
