Newcomer / Intro engineering juri ishmaak

hi,

i need 50 federation bonds for the engineer. where can i get those?

thanks
In conflict zones.
They work the same way as bounties for wanted ship.

Go to the conflict zone, select a side you want to fight for and start killing ships.
Just a word of warning if you haven't been to a conflict zone or/and you're not very experienced in combat - they are tricky. If you gather too much aggro, the enemy ships will gang up on you and kill you, basically no matter what you're flying. Personally, I would even say that it's much safer there in a small ship.
So if you're having problems, just stick to a biggest blob of friendly ships and help them kill enemies they are fighting (they won't mind your kill-stealing) rather than trying to engage enemies on your own.

As for your invitation, you need to kill 50 ships, basically. That's for getting an invitation. I haven't done this in a while (unlocking him, I mean) but I think he will also require selling him a certain worth of combat bonds to actually unlock his services, so hold onto those bonds and check how much he wants from you on the engineers page in the right panel once you get your invite.

It is combat bonds you need from as @Chris Simon says Conflict Zones, Federation bonds are something else obtained by shooting Thargoids.

When you get to turning over the bonds to Juri it will be possible to do it in stages which is good as it means that one destruction of your ship won’t wipe out your progress as Combat Bonds are lost on ship destruction.

All the NPC ships in a CZ are optimised for warfare they will be much better armed and armoured than almost anything you will meet elsewhere and probably flown better as well, anything on your ship that isn’t a weapon or a defence is a weakness.

Just to emphasise you must sign up to one or another side in a CZ if you don’t and start shooting there is a good chance that every ship there will turn on you and worse you wouldn’t get any bonds even if you survived.

Also and this seems obvious. Make sure the faction your fighting for... is federation. Or it don't count.

You would think that given what Juri says, but you actually don't have to. I got a bunch of my progress done during a war between two Imperial factions.

thanks for the responses

now im confused, does it matter or doesnt it matter for what side I fight?
how do I even know which side is federation and which isnt?

I went to a confilct zone once and it sucked. took me a long time to take one ship down and then got swarmed immediately and killed. it was so fast I also had no chance to flee.

I will try to find the ships that are already getting attacked and got their shields down. lets see how that goes.

Yes, that is how you should do it.

Also, when you jump into the CZ, don't choose sides right away. Fly a bit off the centre of the fight and let them work for a bit and then choose a side and join the fight.
Like I said above, I've been always much more successful in small, quick ships. Simply zip around the battle (it usually falls apart into several "focal points") and only focus on finishing ships with already low health. Then it's fine and you don't need to be a super-pilot to survive there.

As for the factions, yeah, IIRC he doesn't really care about where the bonds come from, like Shielman said.
Maybe you should approach it as an experiment. :)

i will try it with my krait and if that doesnt work i will take the fas,
If you have a fully-engineered ship, you'll be OK.

Without engineering, it's better to use a fast ship, like a Viper. Use A-rated sensors and pulse lasers. Enhanced thrusters also help if you can get some. Stay out at the edge, while you watch and wait. Keep all the ships in front of you at all times. When you see one nearly killed, dash in, tag it and get back out again.

If a Capital ship comes in on your side, don't waste your time shooting any ships that it's shooting at because you won't get the credit for the kills. Instead, go for the outlyers.

When the right hand panel says that enemy special ops have come in, you'll see 4 reds that tend to stay together. Keep over the other side of the field. When your special ops have come in, you can join them and gank every ship in sight.

Conflict zones have become much more tricky regarding tactics since the last update, when they introduced the special ops and the shorter battles, so you have to be ready to react to the changing circumstances. You always need to be ready to do a sharp exit.

what if a enemy capital ship comes? just fly outside the cz?
They arrive and then don't move until driven off so just keep out of range, if you have long range weapons you could shoot at them but keeping out of range works best.

Spec Ops are more of a hazard as they are a wing of 4 high powered ships that will work together and if you annoy the alpha they will all try to blow you to atoms. so if you attack them wait until they are shooting someone else then don't attack the alpha until you have finished off the rest.

one more question: why pulse lasers? i have 3 beam lasers and 2 cannons on my ship.

edit: should i take a mission for the conflict zone or am i getting attacked more when i have a mission for the cz?

Pulse lasers apart from drawing relatively little power don‘t necessarily do huge damage per hit this makes you seem a lesser threat so you are less likely to be attacked by all the opposition at once.

Well having a mission will force your choice of side in the zone, I will leave someone who does missions to cover the rest.

I just came back from the cz.

good news: strategy really worked good and it was fun. destroyed 17 ships.

bad news: I got nothing out of it. when I check the engineer tab juri ismaak after i finished it still says 0/50. what am i doing wrong here?
is it because I took on missions? or do i really need to fly to a cz in federation territory?

Have you cashed the combat bonds (at the corresponding station contact) yet?
If yes, it may simply be a matter of server synchronisation, i.e. switching the game off and on again could fix it.

Logging out and back in or simply changing instance may also be sufficient.

yes I did cash it in. i will check back later and see if it really was just a synchronisation problem.

edit: it was just a synchronisation problem, got my bonds.
killed also my first elite ship today(y)
