With Achelies toppling the Sirius monopoly on the FSD, I see a huge possible shake up in the interstellar corporate landscape. This is the perfect time for the engineers to sell or license their research and designs to assorted corporations throughout the bubble.
At the outfiters, you get a choice of different models to buy for each grade/size. The models would be versions of the module with engineering. They'd be up to grade 3 max, but can be engineered further up to grade 5, plus a secondary engineering up to grade 3 (so you still upgrade a max of 5 times.
The companies offering these would be themed by types of engineering, so those based around heat management could be one corp, those based around lowering weight could be another. And so on and so forth.
