Engineering upgrades we really need

Disclaimer: Before anyone gets their knickers in a twist, this is a frivolous thread, just a bit of fun and humour.

I will be honest, I am not a fan of Engineers, especially the way they are implemented in the game and the magic and assumptions one must use to understand them. But enough of that, this thread is about what possible engineering upgrades we can think of that we really really need :D. Here are a couple I have thought up:

Windscreens:
Armoured - increases the strength of the windscreen until at G5 it is damn near indestructible . Downside is it is now quite thick and adds mass to the frame of the ship.
Tinted - Automatically darkens the windscreen when too close to a bright light source like oh a star .
One Piece - for those ships with segmented windscreen, this mod will replace the individual panes with a one piece windscreen, thus eliminating those dreadful structural bits that get in the way.
Permaclean - A new coating for your windscreen that eliminates any buildup of scratchs, dust and hand prints.

Docking Computer:
Stealth Mode - Upon activation the DC will ensure you do not get scanned by avoiding any system security ships and boosting through the slot before slowing down to land.
Departure Mode - Upon receiving launch approval, the DC will now safely take control of your ship, exit the station/outpost and position the ship 5km from the station before shutting down. Expected to be popular with Beluga commanders.
Assisted Remote Landing - when attempting to land on a planet the DC will fire a probe (unlimited number of course) which will scan the surrounding area, locate a suitable landing site and impact the ground. The DC will then land the ship guided by the impacted probe.
High G Landing Assistance - When activated, the DC will recognise if the ship is attempting to land on a High G planet and boosts power to the thrusters above nominal levels to ensure no mishaps occur.

SRV:
Gravity Assistance - Installs additional micro thrusters to provide better traction on low G bodies (thrusters are pointing down) or better traction on high G worlds (thrusters are point up).
Studded Tyres - Provides superior grip on the most icy of surfaces.
Racing Slicks - For those who want a challenge when operating their SRVs
Extra Speakers - So we can finally here the chirps from the scanner without straining

Okay that is enough for now. Please remember this is a light hearted thread, have some fun with the concepts :D

Lights! Engineered Lights :) I mean seriously we can have Lasars melting armoured ships miles away...but my headtorch is better than the lights on our ships!
Oh for G5 Intensity Increased :)

While most of OP's suggestions were tongue-in-cheek, I'd genuinely like to see an inverse of the rapid-fire mod for weapons. The mod would basically reduce the fire rate by a percentage and increase the damage per shot by the same percentage. At grade 5 it should effectively half your fire rate while doubling the damage per shot.

Mining Lasers
- Asteroid Focused: increases yield from asteroids
- Ship Focused: decreases yield but allows metal to be extracted from enemy hulls (shield down only)

Cargo Racks
- Lockbox: reduces capacity but impervious to hull breach limpets
- Tardis: increases capacity by 10% using dimension folding but with 10% chance of cargo being “lost” in alternative dimension
- Roof Racks: allows cargo rack to be fitted outside the ship (limit, one per small, two per medium and three per large ship) to increase overall cargo capacity. External cargo may be shot by pirates, grabbed by limpets or knocked off by the mail slot (the latter leading to a Fly Tipping fine)

SLF
- Holographic: replaces Fighters with holographic equivalents which cannot be destroyed or deal damage but act as a distraction and missile decoy
- Undersized: replaces Fighters with half size ones, allowing twice as many to be stored and manufactured but decreasing health/damage potential
- Oversized: replaces entire SLF bay with a massive freighter which in turn has a “fighter” bay from which your ship can be launched

SRV
- Underlit: choice of colours ...
- Tuuunes: installs a massive sound system in place of cargo hold for pumping out sick beats

Fuel Scoop
- Get The Scoop: collects galnet articles one day early
- Poop Scoop: allows you to refuel by scooping up (alien?) dog turds when in very low orbit

Oh please lets have a squeegee guy strapped in a spacesuit to the front of the ship. I hate the dirt and scratches.

Care Bear scanner, to display CMDRs with a completely squeaky clean record.

Cargo-injection hatchbreaker limpets, for sneaking illicit goods into the cargo holds of squeaky clean CMDRs identified by the Care Bear scanner.

Passenger Cabins
- Hybrid: allows you to mix cargo and passengers. Small chance some cargo may go “missing”, especially when transporting criminals
- Cattle Class: double capacity of economy but with small risk some passengers may die due to extreme conditions
- It’s a cr@p shoot!: allows you to flush the toilet as an alternative to chaff. Ammo reserves dictated by number of passengers carried

Hmm, may be a bit redundant.

Happy to see most got into the swing in this thread, a bit of light hearted humour is often needed in DD :D

Here is another I just thought of:

Lighting:
- This modification installs a dimmer switch for all internal cockpit lighting (does not affect instrumentation). If any Commander goes to the engineer with christmas lights, these will be ceremoneously burnt at the completion of the mod.

Cockpit upgrades. My AspX has a scruffy interior. Theres no way I wouldnt tidy that up and make it as good as new.

Ship:
- cushion pads. Extra stuffing for CMDRs seat. Adds +2 LYs jump range.
- advanced radar display. Display is now usable. Don't ask how. It just is.
- single element hull plating. For the cost of increased mass ship is now more sturdy and landing without shields doesn't inflict damage.
- dual stick setup. Replaces left hand throttle with left hand stick. For the lowered max speed you gain more ... flexibility. Doubled if your CMDR name is "Yamiks".

Cargo hatch reinforcement so you can fly faster with the hatch open and cargo hatch padding mod that lets you fly into materials faster but you can't have both :p

Hull

1. Transparent: Allows you (and others) to see through your ships Hull

2. Human Shield: Allows you to carry passengers strapped to the outside of your ship, providing additional Hull HPs at the expense of passenger happiness
..... Experimental: Space Suits - provides space suits for your Human Shield passengers, slightly increasing passenger satisfaction

How about:

Docking Computer Upgrade: Being a better pilot than a demented brick

I'm not trusting that garbage computer.

Hull

1. Transparent: Allows you (and others) to see through your ships Hull

Drawback, pirates and security forces have no requirement to scan your ship for contraband or cargo. Smuggling automatically fails within 0.5 kilometer of a security force ship.
