General Engineering Xmas Boost

Hi all,
So it looks as though engineering is back to what it was before Xmas. As in using lots more materials to get the same outcome.
I took full advantage of it of course but now it feels like I'm being ripped off now as I know the engineers can put a bit more effort into using less materials when they want to.

I sort of wish FDev hadn't even brought it in now. I feel a little hard done by.

It is totally reversed for me. I might have engineered one module through the entire discount. I have not even thought about engineering anything since the discount ended. I feel no regrets at all and they could keep the discount going all the time and it would be fine with me.

I'm seeing the same. This was supposed to go on for a few days more according to galnet. Now wondering if they're going to come in Monday, shed a bead of sweat and switch it on again... :)

yes yes. C'mon fdev - no more discounts! They make people feel bad!
Haha! It was more a frowny face than sad.
I run out of Datamined Wake Exceptions rolling for the last bit of G5 FSD. I managed to get 6 more trading some other bits.
It took me 5 more rolls to get the last bit, 2 rolls it hardly moved at all. I could have cried.
Managed to do it but it was disappointing.

That reminds me, my broadband deal comes to an end soon and it's going to cost me a third more than I'm paying now for the same thing otherwise.

You don't miss what you never had and all that I suppose.

Haha. I doubt it somehow. I see the reasoning behind it all, linking it with the BGS.
I suppose it gave the new player base something to work towards and try out, even for a short time.

Me personally, I thought it was a good thing and like my broadband deal that I mentioned in a response above, it's a tough pill to swallow paying more for something I was already getting.

Like someone else said, they didn't do it so they didn't miss it, so now harm caused.

It was simply an observation and a suggestion for something good they brought into the game and wished that they would consider bringing it in permanently.

I'll no doubt be met with cries of anger and resentment for suggesting that they continue with something that they already did that could be considered a QoL improvement.

It wasn't like it was a brand new game breaking idea, fresh from the mind of a new player afterall.

Why does it always seem like a war between the Devs and Players ?
Of course it is Hard for Devs to see the Player side, when they have the ability to do whatever.

I did only a single module.
It was G4 and i took it to G5... I did not feel any boost, took me 8 rolls to cap G5 and other people reported the same thing for G5 engineering.

However, people reported some noticeable but useless improvements in lower tiers
Useless as in: instead of needing, let's say, 2 rolls to get to 80% G3 to be able to get to G4, you'd be getting a full 100% G3 in 2 rolls - which is useless if you only want to go to the next level and only a really minor benefit if you actually intended to stop to G3 (minor cause engineering is really cheap at that level)

I didn't notice the increase either, I did notice that it took less rolls to get to G5 though.

My biggest issue with engineering, except for that you need to get the materials at all, is the RNG. In a singleplayer game that wouldn't matter much, but in a MMORPG the randomness means some players will have to grind a lot more then others based on pure luck, which of is not a good thing in competitive PVP.

randomness and mmo kinda worked together... rolling the dice and so on...
I also kinda liked the old engineers random system - some variation is always nice to have (but i did not like the way materials were handled back then)

You do know how RNG works right? Over the long run they even out. So in the end everyone 'grinds' the same. Just that some seem to enjoy a good whine with their grind :ROFLMAO:

No, randomness and RPG works well, in an mmo I want fair and equal conditions.

As a software engineer I have a pretty good understanding of random number "generators" and there is no reason to think it'll even out in the long run.

Assuming it evens out (big assumption) it’s still a dumb concept. The entire discipline of materials QA exists to eliminate this type of randomness. Hey, will that 747 crash this trip? Dunno. We got a bad roll on the aluminum so had to stuff a bunch of extra aluminum in there. Hope it holds up.

I generally defend the engg system, but rng in engineering is an oxymoron.
