Engineers Engineers: Cheers and Jeers

Here's a few thoughts on the Engineers expansion:

Cheers:
Yay for the increased range on the locked disengage - tons of wasted time gone at the flick of a programmer's switch :)

Jeers:
NPCs (with their crazy souped up ships) super-cruising themselves into craters (and dust) by flying into planets in their zeal to blow you away - and then magically reappearing to interdict you a minute or so later... ...this also happens when the authorities show up to fight them...

Cheers:
Adding the mission icon to the navigation panel - again, lots of wasted time just >poof< gone...

Jeers:
Missions where the special thing you're supposed to salvage just never shows up after zillions of stops at various signal sources...

Cheers?:
NPCs that can actually fight; now the haulers don't just have to fear the griefers, they have to fear everyone... ...wait, this might be a Jeer... ;)

Cheers:
Authorities that actually show up in response to the crime alert...

Jeers:
Responding Authorities that don't fight the criminals, but rather scan your ship and levy a fine while you're desperately trying to save your skin...

Anyone got any others?

You did honk your discovery scanner, or scan the nav beacon right? That will update your mission and tell you which body to go to find the USS you are looking for. Its actually really nice. That being said I ran into a mission that I had to find some stuff on a planet, and after finding the right search zone, there was nothing there. Happened just once though, tons were very successful.

Thanks for the reply - didn't really expect advice though: Yes, I'm familiar with the ones where you go to a body (as indicated in the mission blurb) and search. This particular one was for a whole system and the USS that show up in space. I did retrieve one of the correct items from a degraded signal source, but it was not the "unique" one and did not update the mission. Eventually, after about a day of searching distress, weapons fire, degraded signal sources, an NPC finally got me and I gave up. Perhaps I should have only been entering the signal source if it searched they way they do when the mission is surface salvage?

When you are looking for a particular USS, when you jump into the system, use your discovery scanner, or scan the nav beacon which will reveal stuff about the system. You should get an update about the mission, and it will tell you which body the USS you are looking for is near. Fly there, and just circle around the body after a little bit a unique USS that is highlighted a different color will appear, and it will say mission something or other detected. Drop in, scoop your stuff, off you go.
