Engineers in Colonia - quick question

Hello,
I just found that in the meantime when I was not playing, FD implemented some engineers around Colonia.
BUT, when I moved to Colonia, there was no engineers in those times. And according to INARA, it seems that I am supposed to know the locations of those new engineers from some engineers in Bubble.
Does it mean that if I want to use some engineer around Colonia, I need to travel back to bubble just to get infomation about engineer in Colonia ?

Yes.

But I am at Colonia now and I have all my ships here. I really do not want to spend month of available gametime just jumping to bubble, talk with those engineers there and spend another month of available gametime just jumping back to Colonia.

More than year ago (just when ship transport was implemented) I stopped playing ED, because I said to myself "I will take a break and maybe after some time, the game will be better, after all I paid the lifetime pass so my game will be always up to date...".

OK, I tried it:

1. Wow, nice new way of mining is implemented - Oops, no way because there is confirmed bug since April and it is not possible to buy necessary piece of equipment (pulse wave scanner) here.
2. OK, it is impossible to try the new mining. But when I unpacked and connected my HOTAS, maybe I can try some new feature here. Engineers in Colonia ? Wow nice. - Oops, not possible because to use this new feature, one should fly 22.000 ly one way and 22.000 ly oposite way just to unlock engineers here.

Well it seems that during the one year long pause, I almost forgot that FD are masters of game design. :(

What range has your furthest jumping ship?
The journey isn't that far if you neutron boost, I did it 4 or 5 times this year alone. In a 75 LY Conda it takes you roughly 4 hours.
Do you have the guardian modules already? If not that's another reason to return to the bubble.
Depending on your credit balance you can suicidewinder back, buy a cheap DBX in the bubble, get the engineers and the guardian modules and after that return
to Colonia. DBX should get 60-70 LY jumprange, so you're really quick back.
Also you earn tons of money with the new exploration.

I totally get it. I am there now, and one Engineer is not unlocked for me due to a bug. I contacted support. First I was told I needed to improve my trade rank (not relevant plus I am elite, how much better should I be :p) then I was asked to restart my client and see if that helps (as if I didn't close the game once in the months I've been in Colonia). Eventually they 'passed it on' and that was that, so no rail gun mods for me. :p

Well, I just really wanted to try new features. Certainly I do not plan to spend hours jumping back there and back here.
I do not have any guardian modules, because those things was not implemented in times when I moved to Colonia and stopped playing.
The suicide maybe will be the option, if they will repair the bug with scanner and I will mine some VOs. But when I see this masterpiece of game design, I am really not sure if I want to play again.

BTW, when it comes to game design. As a former programmer, I can imagine that a relatively small and simple subroutine in the program with functions like:

1. Check the last login date and location. If last login is couple of months ago and there was several big updates in the meantime, display dialog: "Welcome back CMDR. You was away for a long time. We have couple of new things here..."
2. Set all necessary variables and say something like "You can get access to those engineering geniuses locally. Just do some missions here..."

can be implemented with minimal effort and time. But as always, no one at FD thought about it. :(

Pretty sure if he hasn't unlocked level 1 engineers he doesn't have a 75LY range anaconda.

Actually, I unlocked Felicity if I remember correctly, because I have G3 modification on FSD of my Conda. But it will not help, because I would like to use the engineer here, which is able to make better thrusters. But I really will not travel back to bubble and back here. My time is too precious for such a nonsense.
So far I met couple of NPC pirates and as far as I can say, they either do not have engineered ships or they are not able to use them properly. And I tried to maneuvre around asteroids in belts and it seems that it is possible in normal Python without engineered thrusters.
So, I will try to wait some time if they will fix the problem with Pulse Wave scanner. If not, I will pack HOTAS back to box and wait another year...

You can get a DBX up to 40Ly without engineering. That's easily enough - that's the same range as the ship I've just taken to Beagle Point.

That would make it 500 jumps, or over ten hours of just pressing one button and watching a loading screen, over and over. To the average gamer that is torture.

Fair point, though the OP has clearly not objected to the journey previously. :)

Edit: And you're excluding neutron jumps there? Should be less than 250 if you use the neutron highway.

But still, I do not understand the philosophy behind this design. Why to lock engineers here behind some unlock 22.000 LYs away. This does not make sense at all.
Local engineers should be unlocked locally (or approx. locally), especially if there is no instant teleportation to insane distances.

Do they really think that anyone who played ED for long time, took a break for couple of months or year, will return to test new features and will start with mindless push button grind for hours just to test another feature ? I can imagine this for local things like Thargoids/Guardians, which by design are limited to some exact places in the Galaxy.
But for something what is basically a normal progression in game ?

You can get back to the bubble in a Sidey almost immediately. ;)

I know. But I do not know why I should do this. Especially because I paid approx. 500.000.000 year ago just to move my ships to Colonia. And I do not have approx. the same amount for moving my ships back to bubble.

There is no gameplay in this. Better to forget the whole engineering stuff.

While I agree that it doesn't make much sense that you can't unlock them locally, I suspect that there aren't many players who are in Colonia without access to engineers. In context, while it's annoying for you, it isn't a widespread problem.

But I unlocked some engineers and I had access to them in the past. But when I had access, those new engineers in Colonia was not implemented, so the old engineers was not able to tell me about the new ones.
And now, I should travel back there just to talk with them ????

Once again a case of stupid design where the trainer comes in mind as a solution, with its high contrast mode and instant jump features.
