Engineers in Colonia - quick question

But I unlocked some engineers and I had access to them in the past. But when I had access, those new engineers in Colonia was not implemented, so the old engineers was not able to tell me about the new ones.
And now, I should travel back there just to talk with them ????
You don't need to visit - if you reached the usual G3.5 then they would have invited you. But you still need to go back for the PWS, so might as well get going ;)

What is nonsense for some, is a cool decision for others.
I like it that it takes some little dedication to get to Colonia in this game.

Of course, I understand this. But I already am at Colonia and I did this way in the past, without any jumponium or Neutron Stars. So I really do not see any reason to travel the whole way back to bubble and again back to Colonia just to unlock engineers which are already here where I am.

This is not a game for me, it is a simple waste of time.

This is simply a totally stupid game design. Nothing more.

Lucky no-one told him about needing to come back to unlock Guardian modules...

The following requires level 3-4 engineer status for discoveries.

Elvira Martuuk at KHUN discovers Mel Brandon at LUCHTAINE
The Dweller at WYRD discovers Marsha Hicks at TIR
Liz Ryder at EURYBIA discovers Etienne Dorn at LOS
Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn at Wolf 397 discovers Petra Olmanova at ASURA

But before that...

Felicity Farseer at DECIAT wants Scout Explorer and 1 unit of meta alloys
Elvira Martuuk at KHUN wants 300LY of travel and 3 units of soontill relics
The Dweller at WYRD wants deal with 5 black markets and 500,000 credits
Liz Ryder at EURYBIA wants cordial/friendly status with Eurybia Blue Mafia and 200 units of landmines
Tod "The Blaster" McQuinn wants earn 15 bounty vouchers and provide 100,000 credits of bounty vouchers

All the above are discovered by public or common knowledge. Back to Colonia...

Mel Brandon at LUCHTAINE wants invitation from Colonia Council and 100,000 credits of bounty vouchers
Marsha Hicks at TIR wants Surveyor Explorer and mine 10 units of Osmium
Etienne Dorn at LOS wants Dealer Trader and 25 units of occupied escape pods
Petra Olmanova at ASURA wants Expert Combat and 200 units of progenitor cells

This doesn't include gathering materials to engineer equipment and obtain engineer status. With all these requirements it seems that getting back and forth from Colonia is the easy part! Might as well take a holiday and unlock all the 20 engineers in the bubble. Also go play with the Guardians for awhile at least for their FSD booster and module reinforcement package.

I'm guessing the Devs designed the Colonia engineers as the ultimate unlock after mastering the basics ones in the bubble. They could have discovered them by public or common knowledge for players already at Colonia. Another issue is that the 4 Colonia engineers have most if not all of the equipment engineering of the 20 engineers in the bubble. Players can also upgrade the equipment grade levels versus being fixed in the bubble. Given time all will be grade 5. This is a huge advantage for example the requirements for engineering G5 thrusters in Colonia is much easier than in the bubble.

A player could totally eliminate many hours unlocking engineers in the bubble just by going to Colonia. Given these huge advantages, the improvements in frame shift drives, use of newtron stars and polonium jumps Colonia is a lot easier to get to. Thus having to unlock a few engineers in the bubble first seems appropriate.

Well, this make sense, because Guardians are the Bubble thing. If I want to mess with Guardians/Thargoids, it make sense to travel back to place where this stuff is going. And it make sense that I will be able to get proper tools at this place.

But I am talking about something different. The Engineers in Colonia are supposed to do base upgrades for players around Colonia. Maybe for players who moved here before those Engineers was invented (I did not remember if there was Engineers first and Colonia later or Colonia first and Engineers later) at all.

From my point of view (returning player) it does not make sense to travel back to bubble and back here just to unlock couple of local engineers. It does not make sense from game design point of view (I certainly will not spend more money on some cosmetics etc. because bugs and stupid design, I will not recommend my friends to try to return to game and play again etc.) and also it does not make sense from my role-play point of view, because I packed everything year ago and moved to Colonia.

I would understand that Engineers is a pure Bubble thing. I am not there so I do not have access to best technology. This make sense. But have engineers here and unlock them there ?? It is a pure non-sense.
From point of view of new players, it makes sense. They will unlock engineers in bubble and after that, maybe they will travel here. But there should be some way how to unlock local engineers without travelling back and forth for players who already was here before the update was implemented.

I suspect that there aren't many players who are in Colonia without access to engineers.
I didn't expect there would be when they originally set up the Colonia engineers, but there are surprisingly many people in that situation - or at least who don't have all four pre-requisite engineers unlocked. (Ryder has few non-specialist blueprints, and doesn't unlock anyone particularly important either, for example, apart from Dorn)

I'm guessing the Devs designed the Colonia engineers as the ultimate unlock after mastering the basics ones in the bubble
Other than being in Colonia, they all have pretty easy unlocks and prerequisites (some of the easiest second row unlocks, and way faster than third row engineers like Palin, Vatermann or Turner). Unlock the four basic pre-requisite engineers (you can even skip Farseer) and then head out to Colonia and you've got near-full engineering access very quickly.

But that's not all that unbalancing, because if you aren't planning to use them solely for Colonia-based ships (or four extra pinned blueprints) it'll cost a lot of money or time to engineer bubble ships with them, which will certainly be easier just to get on with unlocking the rest of the bubble ones.

And it certainly wouldn't be a problem to have a Colonia-based way to discover them if you're already here.

You are quite correct Commander.
Colonia engineers should be unlocked in Colonia.
Another staggeringly stupid fdev waste of players time.

Your easiest way out is to suicide with a sidewinder, then pay for a small, high jump range ship to be shipped back in the bubble (like a DBX). Or engineer a new one. Wont cost much and you can neutron jump back to Colonia in 4-5 hours maybe less with it once you unlock the engineers..

Actually, I unlocked Felicity if I remember correctly, because I have G3 modification on FSD of my Conda. But it will not help, because I would like to use the engineer here, which is able to make better thrusters. But I really will not travel back to bubble and back here. My time is too precious for such a nonsense.
So far I met couple of NPC pirates and as far as I can say, they either do not have engineered ships or they are not able to use them properly. And I tried to maneuvre around asteroids in belts and it seems that it is possible in normal Python without engineered thrusters.
So, I will try to wait some time if they will fix the problem with Pulse Wave scanner. If not, I will pack HOTAS back to box and wait another year...
I don't think Colonia is a Bubble 2.0. It's a small system of systems 22K LY from the bubble. Trying to live out there means you have to sacrifice some creature comforts. I went there a couple years ago and stayed a while, but came back after the 1st of the year because there was no one around... ever. The star field is magnificent and back then you could go a few dozen LY outside Colonia and discover new systems. Now with the station at Sag *A and all the rest stops between Sol and Colonia, it's a tourist attraction. There's no real reason to remain in Colonia. Do some void opal mining, make your 3 or 4 billion Cr in a few days and use that to fund your move.

Can't he commit a crime then be sent basically most of the way back?

I know. But I do not know why I should do this. Especially because I paid approx. 500.000.000 year ago just to move my ships to Colonia. And I do not have approx. the same amount for moving my ships back to bubble.

There is no gameplay in this. Better to forget the whole engineering stuff.
It is ridiculous. A blight on an otherwise fine game.
