Engineers Engineers is boring

I have spent 3 days trying to find stuff for the Engineer and it is stupid, There are commodity Markets that sell Metal yet you can't buy Nickel in it. In what Universe can you not buy metal in a market? Oh yes the Elite Universe. Engineers is just too much of a grind and I give up. I know what people will say if its too easy for you its not worth playing. Well I did the grind for Rear Admiral and Duke and I am sick of grinding so no engineer upgrades for me I guess because I am not wasting my time on it anymore.

If you don't want to do it, that's your call, but was it really necessary to call it stupid?
Some of us are happy with not only the results, but also the sense of achievement of actually doing it.
So please, stop asking for easy mode.

OK. FD seem to want to reward people who have a varied game style, for them Engineers is pretty easy. If you dont, you have to grind if you want the reward.

This is one of those threads where someone is just venting frustration, then others just pile on and either commiserate or condemn the OP.

Nickel is beyond abundant, you should have no trouble whatsoever finding it.

The best thing to do is go to;

https://roguey.co.uk/elite-dangerous/trade-helper/materials/

Also, search in yahoo "elite dangerous where to find nickel" (or whatever you need) and go through the REDDIT posts. I love REDDIT.

I do not mean to be rude or insulting, but, you have to try a little harder :)

It's not just that it's boring, it has broken the game.

I have an FDL that is overpowered for PVE combat, AI is to easy, so I tried my hand at PVP.

Joined a group of CMDRS.

The instance that showed me how broken this mechanic is came when there was six of us, all in enginered FDL's, were fighting one CMDR in an FDL.
We couldn't get his shields down, six of us against one, that just isn't right.
He was able to pick us off.

Apparently to get shields like his the requirement is to get a god roll on your shield gen and boosters.
This means having tons of mats for plenty of rolls, and hope the RNG is in your favour.
I went searching for High Grade Emissions. Four hours later and nothing.
I'm sorry, but this just isn't enjoyable, it's boring.

But the fact that one guy can take on six is plain stupid.

Dont let the Nickel win man, you better go to a planet's surface and shoot at piles of it for a while to get revenge for them upsetting you like this.

But in a more serious tone, Never give up, Never surrender.

Or if on PC add me Darnell Jenkins and i'll push your srv with my srv to the material nodes, ill shoot the piles, then all you have to do is open your scoop. You can insult me the entire time over comms to if it helps. If not, can i have your stuff?

i agree there are a lot of things which makes no sense (why are iron and carbon materials that are not purchasable, why do we have magic pockets that we can carry stuff with (so many more game play options if we can store stuff) and the RNG gambling element i hate.

but all that aside, i do not agree with you over all. i really enjoy modding my ship and just now i planning my new vulture build after 1st having a session last night with it at stock and seeing what i can do with it.

ultimately tho, if you really hate it that much, so long as you do not PvP, you can ignore it.... tho that said i would at least take the pain and get some low level mods in there..... things like the level 1 PP make a big difference to the vulture for instance.

but then i dont grind either..... i am slooooooooooooowly ranking up by doing missions for the feds and empire, but i do not do just donation missions or mission stack and i am just playing my game. one day i will get promoted and when i am i will then consider the ships it unlocks... but i gave up on grinding things i hated after getting seriously 2.0 on gears of war 2.

that said i do agree with every word of this. luckily i do not PvP and i go out of my way to not build ships like the above.. but you are right, its stupid that it is even possible and pretty much is a legalised cheat having such a ship, and pity the players in well rounded standard ships against such a fellow for they stand no chance at all.

*THIS* is my favorite post of the day: An encouraging pat on the back is actually looking for a soft spot in your back to stick a knife (lol).

A common metal like Nickel not available on the market, yep that is about as stupid this game gets.
Engineers is right down there with CQC and PP, just pure garbage addons.

You can guarantee it that if you want to find something badly...when it comes to it, it'll make itself scarce for inexplicable reasons.

We've all been there at least once.

you're a Duke but don't have the patience to find Nickel :O its on nearly every planet surface and is common as muck, you can also find it in asteroids mining, I throw about 60 nickel away each SRV trip / mining trip

if you made it to Duke and Rear admiral engineers will be a doddle (time wise)

It was never supposed to be realistic, as in, there is no way in hell that you give Sulphur to some guy and with that element he will make you cannons that fire Incendiary Shells forever.
It's Pokemon levels of dumb, but I take it at face value - it's gameplay-based grind to get more power.

Wait just a minute. I don't have the game yet - waiting for the ps4 release but I have been operating under the impression I will actually be flying around in outer space doing stuff in a space ship. If I'm low on fuel I just buy a fuel scoop and fly close to a star and scoop up some fuel. Now you are telling me it isn't realistic?

I'm going to file a case of consumer fraud if I buy the game and I'm still in Missouri instead of in outer space fling around doing stuff.

I find engineering the most interesting and engaging thing to do while in the bubble. Different strokes for different folks.

It's obviously pretty weird that you can't buy common (or rare, for that matter) elements from stations which deal in similar things. But I'm glad they did that rather than invent a pile of fictional unobtanium elements for engineering.

I think it's fun and interesting. I love searching for things and then not knowing if I'm going to get that special component or not. It's like the slot machines (aka fruit machines). You don't know if the next thing you scan or mine will be a special item you need or not. I love just roaming around the planets and searching for higher outcrops to see if there's rare things I might need for engineering.

I also like building up my plan for my ships, and then engineering a new ship and seeing what luck or non luck I have and if it'll be a good idea. It also makes it interesting. But for me it's fun, others hate it and that's how it is with most eveything.

Yes somethings could have a better drop rate or easier places to find them without having to do long searching online to find the best methods of finding out how to get them (Modified Embedded Firmware is a great example or Chem Manipulators for example). When you know the tricks gathering these aren't too bad, if you don't then yes it can waste a lot of time and make people give up. But those are the tweaks that just need to be made.

And as others have said in multiple discussions like this, you don't need to do it. You can choose to do it and if not it won't destroy your experience at all. If you want to invest the time and enjoy it then it works and that's how it is for many people including me, if you don't then you can be like the other many people that choose to occupy their time doing something they find fun instead.

Similar to the CG. I don't participate in that at all (I'm pure Solo for one thing), but even still, I don't like that sort of thing anyways and don't find it interesting for my play style. Other people love doing the CG's and I have the choice and choose not to. Will it kill my game? Nope, will there be a few things like upgrades I might miss out on? Sure, but will I notice I don't have it, nope...

Do you realize the irony? Missouri was part of the Louisana Purchase - from Napoleon Bonaparte.

For me the engineers gave the game some new life, had fun getting most of them and the material they want. Didn't really feel like grinding (except mining 500t) cause I had to do so many different things to get them. Sadly my cobra is now fully engineered on everything so I´m not sure what my next goal is, hopefully thargoids will come soon
