I've been playing since the beginning of beta, and both of my accounts are Mostly Harmless. That will soon change. There was a thread in the Exploration folder recently asking what people would add to exploration, and (I think) Allitnil replied with "a sense of adventure". Combat has that now, where for me it previously did not.
Prior to Engineers, I had no reason to play the combat game...I'm not a particularly skillful pilot and have always preferred exploration as a play-style, and trade / CGs for raw income. At the end of the day, materials are just another form of currency, but cash as a raw number is just...boring. So the risk/reward ratio simply was never worth my time.
Now combat provides rewards that are meaningful to the other things that keep my interest in the game. Now combat is exciting because there is anticipation: am I going to get what I want; am I going to find something new?
Thanks for that, F: D. Despite a less than idea launch experience, the end result has given the game a depth that, frankly, it previously lacked.
