I am faced with vastly improved planets, textures and decent on foot gameplay with some of the most immersive environments in a open world game of this scale.
There are a lot of rough edges for sure. but the love, effort and passion that went into this is clear.
I find myself looking at amazingly detailed worlds, the rock scattering that some claim to be absent is visibly there, it blends in better its not the same shapes over and over but instead varies and clusters around. its amazing. I think there is a valid complaint in the apparent lack of deep canyons (though I have seen some minor canyons and amazing steep mountains close to each other with similar effect)
Like clearly the planetary tech is day and nights better than horizon. and clearly different to how planets were in alpha.
Is this a beta? I dont think so, I think it would have been better to call it that for sure, but I also just want to play the damn expansion and not have my saves reset, and currently I have no issues with performance or crashes.
Now obviously if you purchased the DLC and its not working for you, I feel you. especially if your PC fits within the recommended specs or surpasses them.
But for me this expansion has added so much to Elite, a lot of it that I wanted since Horizons like a better way to find crash sites and salvage, exploring abandoned stations inside and out.
I know Frontier will fix the issues BUT please Frontier dont lower the graphical fidelity in order to get it to run on older machines. optimizations and when that runs out lower spec options are the way.
And its not like the expansion locks you out of downgrading to Horizon
