Enlighten me please [influence, reputation and other hazards]

Hey guys,

so I've read that you can effectively lower a factions influence by abandoning their missions after you accepted them. So far so good. Lets say that particular faction owns all the stations/outposts in the system. Will the station/outpost guns open fire on me when I become hostile towards them? :S
