Enough with getting rammed for no real reason

I am tired of NPC ramming me when they go to scan me. Most of the time, it doesn't mean much, shields up and all. But just tonight (as i am writing this) I had a ship with depleted shields hit me while trying to scan me. I had my shields down after a combat encounter. My hull went from 92% to 30%, and the NPC was destroyed. getting me a 6k bounty and the surrounding 8 ships weapons hot on me. I manage to escape to a nearby system with 5 % hull.

Here is the kicker: I was farming kills for one of the CGs in LHS 3447, which ends in 5d 17 hrs (ish) I can't afford to be in system for 6 days...my ship costs 1.4 mil to replace and I have over 500 k in bounties in LHS 3447. I now can't turn those in, or continue to participate in the CGs in this system, as I was in both. All because some NPC did a stupid and slammed his Sidey into my Asp at nearly 300 m/s. NOT MY DAMN FAULT!!! HE HIT ME!!!    !

So your blaming a NPC ship. Because YOU are moving also?. When NPC Ships scan they stop and scan unless you are moving. You have also have the abuilty to move 6DOF (which means you can move 6 degrees of Freedom.) So if a ship flying at you. You can Move in one of the other directions to avoid it. I played Sense Alpha and Only had a few NPC hit me. Most of the time it My fault not the NPC.

Oh look at that, its a "git gud" post as the first reply. So because you personally have not encountered a problem, it means that this problem does not exist. Right?
There are hundreds of people on here and reddit that have had the same issues. These days while at a res, if I ever hear "scan detected" i immediately put 4 pips to shields. I've been rammed by NPC ships while moving and while standing still. I've been rammed by friendly security vipers and by pirates in a Python that have not went hostile. It doesnt matter what I am doing or who is scanning and is clearly a bug in the AI. The only thing all the ramming has in common is that it did not occur in 1.4 and started with 1.5/2.0

I agree with you, DragoonKnight. I'll be leaving or coming up on a station straight and level at maybe 25% throttle and BAM!!! something runs smack into me and I get fined for reckless driving.

Well Stop with your Tunnel Vision attacks while focusing on one target. This game not just about that ONE target. It what around you. What other ships. Use SOUND and RADAR. They do help. I can tell if a ship right or left of me. I always check my Radar to check to see if there other close to me. It all common Sense.

So fixing a bug in the NPC ship AI does not make sense to you, but having a non-hostile ship ram you while it is in the process of scanning makes sense to you?

No what dose not make sense to me. Is players not paying attention what around them when they fly. All of that could be avoided if they use what in front of them. Sound Radar and (6dof) thurst controls. You can see when a ship coming in hot and avoid it.

A idea for some. Play Arena and learn the skill of avoiding ramming.

so. you tell me flying a cutter in RES to look out where i fly when i drift around a target im attacking and when a python thinks, "OH i just fly with 300 m/s from under him straight into him while scanning." it´s my fault that he flies straight into me? with no real option to avoid?. when they fly fast and don´t stop you have no chance if you don´t see them. especially in big ships. I had so many ships crash onto my anaconda deck while just flying straight, you hear the viper coming and look into the direction where you hear it and 1 sec later. bam. you got a viper on your deck. So, tell me again, is it my fault? and if you say yes, you definetly have never flown the big 3 in RES.

Wow it sounds like you don't look at your radar and you don't use your Six degrees of freedom as a advantage. Your so focus flying Straight. It kinda like someone so focus on going though a green light they forget that old lady that still crossing it.

Learn to use your thrust

Interesting. Well today as soon as I slowly exited a space station, a dumb NPC fed rammed me 5 times the speed I was doing (also now kicked out of the system for 6 days, because of a low 100 CR bounty). Honestly, the NPC ships are the ones that do not pay enough attention. P.S. My ship was a Type-6, for the record.

When I exit or enter a station. I always look at the other ships on my Radar and what around me see what they are doing. You can always tell when one coming in fast. Even with my Lakon 9 I never got rammed. It a common Sense thing you know. It kinda like going to a stop sign and look both ways before you go. Because you don't always know what the Others are doing.

I guess that is true, but I found this today:

As you can see, the fed clearly rammed him while scanning. There are some bugs like these within NPC ships (such as the rolling bug, making bounty hunting a lot easier ;) ), but by far I am guessing this bug forgets to remind NPCs to slow down. One time, I remember just exiting the space station, when a fed decided to scan me (he eventually slammed into the entrance guardrail XD).

However, bounties can be avoided by slowing down (sounding like Captain Obvious here), but you will still be prone to getting hit. But it seems that the game calculates which ship has a higher velocity to apply the bounty on. Then again, the spinning issue with ships (and failing to fire back at times) are probably major issues.

There is very little a Conda can do if a Viper or FAS decides to ram it and is coming in fast. You can't move out of the way fast enough and even if you do, the NPC will make another attempt to scan and ram you. 4 pips to shields is still the best thing to do as soon as your hear "scan detected".

What funny. I been playing When Pre Alpha stage came out. Never been rammed. Unless you account for that one Cmrd that was drunking and flying and hit me.

I watch that video. I always point out watch your radar and listen to your sound. In this case I heard the ship before I seen it move on the radar. I heard that ship coming 4 seconds before It hit. You can tell it was on the left side. 4 Seconds is a lot of time. By this time I would of been moving thurst up or down or even boost. Even adding pips to shields.

Maybe it some ideas you should toss out before losing a ship.

Dude - its a bug, FD has admitted its a bug and have reimbursed lost ships because of it. Just because you are a fanboi and think the game can do no wrong does not make it less of a bug.

um...wasn't an option, I was stopped, and my asp still needs time to get moving, and this guy was already going at every bit of 300 m/s +. I'm just glad my armor could take the hit. I would have gone pips to shields, but my shields were recharging from a fight with a wanted conda. I am fully aware that I have 6DOF. In fact, I wasn't moving at all, and NPC ships do charge straight for you when they go to scan. Don't try to tell me otherwise. I have seen it way too often. I don't always get hit, but my prox warning goes off at least 50% of the time. This one time happened to be the one that sent me over the edge a bit.

So, Lestat, please go somewhere else with your "git gud" posts, like on the noob guides section, I just needed to vent. I am actually quite good at this game, you don't know me, so don't attempt to pass judgement without all the facts. Like I said, most of the time this issue doesn't matter, but this ONE time it did. Just because you haven't had it happen to you doesn't mean in doesn't exist. check your logic before making a post.

Do you even read what people are saying?
This is a new bug that was introduced in 1.5/2.0. That is why you did not encounter it before.
Change that type 9 to a Conda or Corvette and go to a Hi res or haz res. Sooner or later you will be scanned and rammed too.

Also, I have never lost a ship due to ramming. Damaged yes, but not lost.

I despise this. It's like NPC's have no control over their ship and just randomly run into you, especially the cops. I tend to sit still while consulting my maps and I'll hear an impact to look and see my shields flicker as a NPC Conda smack my Python.

It seems like NPCs can either fly their ship or scan you, but not both at the same time.
