Enter stations at 8Mm?!

Why is it that sometimes a station will let me come out of FSD at 5Mm or 8Mm and yet others are still 1Mm? Anyone know what's going on?

It has been tweaked to make the phoney physics comply with the strength of the local gravitational field. DB loves SC - but IMO it spoils the game.

I only know that its working as intended as it was part of 2.1 release patch notes and dev have said some where that its working like its supposed to work. But as far as i know we don't have any logic on it or idea how it work.

I think its a new dynamic range based on proximity to a gravity well (e. G planet) so stations in a far orbit have long drop in distances.

You get the same with signal sources in deep space vs ones near planets.

I'd rather it was consistent for types of locations, rather than gravity levels. For example, 5Mm for stations, 2Mm for outposts etc.

Low g (not G - which is a constant) means drop out is possible at longer distance. It makes no scientific sense, but that's the way it is. I would like to see this whole nonsense automated.

I stopped paying attention to my distance on the HUD, and have just started watching my little speed and distance sliders on the bottom left.

...Which really doesn't make a difference, but it helped me understand a little better how safe disengage works, and how I can tweak my speed a little and still stay on target.

Ahh I see. Thanks. Personally I'd like to see the drop out increased even more. The longest part of my trip is usually the last 30 Mm. And interdictions always seem to happen at 1.1 Mm.

Interdictions happen when the enemy catches up to you, mostly, which is almost always in the latter half, once you're slowing down, and very likely to be at the last gasp when you're trundling along. Increasing the brake speed when in SC would probably be a much bigger QoL improvement, and would also help reduce how likely interdictions were in the last stretch.

Now, if only the local g affected the distance to the target station when we drop out of SC... ~9 km is just too close for any fun to happen.

Yeah, I've been noticing that too. Watching the counter run down, and suddenly at 7 or 8Mm, I get the safe disengage.. Odd indeed.

75% throttle on 6 seconds till destination (I do 5 seconds - nose down nose up), driving below so the station is in upper cockpit position.
Wait till 5,5 Mm, line up with the station, then full speed ahead, drop out on safe disengage bellow 800 km.
Saved my Time and Asp :D from those last second interdictions many times.

My 0,5 Cr...

Yes, 75% at 7. It would be *so* easy for the ship to do this by itself - but never mind - that's part of the grind.
